New Bimmer Driver as of today!

So today I bought my first BMW, and to say the least I am very happy.

I bought a super clean 2010 335i w/ M Sports package, Premium Package, Cold Weather Package, Navigation, and the sound system.

Just as a general question, the brakes are the only thing that don't look clean, them being rusty. Does that go away or what does it typically cost to have someone remove it?

Thanks! I look forward to enjoying this new beast and becoming a part of the Bimmerfect community.

Congratulations on the new ride. Have fun

Not sure what part of California your in?

The Sports Package comes with Summer Performance tires.

It would be a good idea to check and see if these are the tires you have on the car.

BMW recommends to not driving on Summer tires when the temperature drops below 45 degrees.

A good read on this from tire rack.

I'm in Los Angeles, so the weather isn't too cold here. The weather dropping below 40 is pretty rare around here...

The guy said the rust would come off after a week of driving or so. Let's hope! The car itself is amazing though, very very clean. I'm very excited.

That's good. No need to worry then. If the weather ever does get cold be sure and drive very cautiously.

Hopefully even sooner. The rust can look bad but it is usually just a very very thin layer.

If for some reason the rust does not come off get the rotors checked to make sure they are within specs on thickness and for pitting.

Rust comes off the swept area on first use. The rest, not so much. I wouldn't concern yourself about it.

Rust on the rotors just means the car was sitting for a bit anxiously awaiting its new owner!

I have this same vivid memory from the purchase of our first BMW 10 years ago ..... its still in the family (2002 330i) probably seen because the front rotors are so big they jump out at you!

Unfortunately I tried taking a picture of one of the rotors for you guys but the rust didn't come up on the picture. I'll let you know if the rust slowly goes away in the coming days/week.

The stock runflats on my 335 will bust loose in cold weather (below 50 degrees) if I'm too aggressive, but I also have a tune. Just mentioned it because the summer tires really do hate the cold. (I'm in the Hi Dez BTW!)

Nice Car! Congrats!

With regard to the rust on the rotors, my rotors will develop a thin sheet of rust in the time it takes me to wash the car! My answer is that upon putting the car back in the garage I'll back down the drive and apply the brakes a couple of times and then apply them again as I drive the car into the garage and voila', all the rust is removed from the rotor. As Cal mentioned, one sweep around and it goes away. My after car wash method also seems to keep the hand brake from sticking after being applied when the brakes are wet.

Best of luck and enjoy your new car!
