Programming key fob

Hello, have just gotten a used 328I convertible and wanted to program the key fob to perform functions differently than they currently are set, mainly wanted to ad a chirp for when I lock the doors, anyway in the owners manual it says to push the "1" button "up" on the Light Switch arm, to find an icon shaped like a key, when I do this I found some icons, calender, time, etc but not one with the key icon, which of course means I cannot change the setting, anyone know why this is happening, I have only one remote, could it be that the other is a "master" and I have only the "slave"? Thanks for any help.
Mark

Two things: 1) keep looking through the menus in the computer, they are in there

2) Do you know if your car has an alarm installed? If I'm not mistaken, it won't chirp unless it does.

Thanks for the info, I sort of figured it out, the car must be running, and apparently I do not have an alarm so unable to get a chirp, but was able to set door locks and lights the way I'd like them. Thanks again

Yeah, forgot about that minor detail too... Glad you got that sorted out.

Ignition must be on, car not necessarily running. When you insert the key the car goes to the "radio readiness" a/k/a "accessory" state. To switch to "on" without starting the car, press the Start/Stop button without depressing the clutch/brake pedal.

Useful if you want to limit unnecessary cold start/stop cycles or just monkey with these settings while in your garage with the door closed.

Mods4Cars makes a product called RemoteKey that can provide lock/unlock chirp functionality, along with several other handy features.

This is the cousin product to the excellent SmartTop module for cabrios that has similar features plus roof control, except it unfortunately does not have the chirp function.

Cheers.

Thanks again for all of the info, all of it is very helpful, I especially like that you can turn on the ignition by not putting foot on brake and pushing the start button, will help a lot.

Does this kit come with a speaker? Because the OEM alarm needs a loudspeaker installed in the rear driver's side wheel well. Without, no noise can be made.

Maybe it sounds the horn? That would sound weird...
