Question Black Leather M Wheel -- ZHP

I just orderd a 2005 330ci zhp, premium, xenons, silver gray, and black cube trim. I also tried to order the black leather M steering wheel instead of the standard ZHP wheel. Dealer said it is not possible. will sell me black leather M wheel for $270 (HAVE TO TURN STOCK WHEEL IN). Is true that I can't order the black leather M wheel from the factory. Is $270 a good deal for the wheel?

You can't just order the M steering wheel. That price sounds great if it includes installation.

I ordered one from Pacific BMW for $335 + S/H, and installed it myself in about 30 minutes. **a no-brainer**

I've heard most dealers charge about $100 to install, so if you were going to have a dealer install it anyway (no reason to do this IMO), and that $270 included that, its a pretty good deal. If that doesn't include installation and/or you would install it yourself, it's NOT a good deal. If they want you to turn in a wheel you could sell for probably $200 (maybe more). Getting one from Pacific and selling the alcantara wheel would probably save over $100 of their offer.

With that said, for the sake of convenience, it's probably easiest just to go the dealer route.

Whats so great abt the //M wheel???

On the sidelines of this topic, I have always wondered whats the difference between this wheel and the one that comes with the sports package??? Other than the //M logo and the 2 spoke bottom, is there another difference. Is the //M wheel perform better??? Or the leather makes a difference???

The padding is thicker and there are thumb-guides...

I'm in the same boat, not a fan of the alcantara wheel either. I guess that's another mod I'll have to add to the list once I take delivery.

$270 not installed sounds like a no brainer to me. Thats a DIY project, and you can sell the alcantera wheel.

Congrats on the new ride What did you pay if you don't me asking

Unfortunately, he doesn't get to keep his original wheel with this deal, so it doesn't sound so great... Sounds to me like someone in the parts department wants an Alcantara for himself. A little fishy if you ask me...

Yeah, not a good deal. You need to ask for the Alcantara wheel back so you can sell it. It's these little things like this that make me always feel that BMW wants the suck the dollars out of it's customers. Heck they should have sweetned the deal for you by saying heck you just bought a $40M car so yes we will throw in the black leather wheel. It's just the right thing to do. It's what gives companies excellent marks on there customer service surveys that they so importantly want.

Other poster right, someone just wants that A wheel from your car. How much are you paying for installation if I may ask you?

I think a lot of this just depends on your dealer and your relationship with same. An acquaintance here in KC had problems with the Alcantra wheel, bought a leather M wheel and got a new Alcantra out of the deal under warranty. He's selling the Alcantra wheel to a guy with an E46 M3...so go figure. So far I like the Alcantra on the ZHP and have had no problems. Did I say Alcantra enough?

Also keep in mind that the Alcantara will fray. In fact, I have had my ZHP for a year, and the dealership is going to replace the wheel next week under warranty because I complained about the fraying and rough feel.

I think there are other threads on this forum about people asking for the M wheel as a warranty replacement, because the fraying on the Alcantara is pretty much inevitable. I told the dealership that if I come back in a year with another frayed steering wheel, I will request and expect them to put on the leather M wheel.

270

270 is a great deal. Even installed you are at 350 or so. My dealer wanted full price of 450 plus 100 to install. I hated the Alacantara's suede rough feel that I did it anyway. The M wheel is so cushy you just want to grip the hell out of it. So cool. I did sell the old wheel for 100 bucks, you can too, a lot of reponses to that offer once I switched out. Check out the old alcantara wheel at 2 months. I had to shave it with a disposable razer.
