Should I Give It a Shot?

So I recently purchased a 328i coupe. (like 3 weeks ago) but recently saw a 335i sedan demo that my dealership has now offered for sale (FOR THE SAME PRICE!) with less miles! I love my coupe but i mean come on? Do you think I have a shot at calling my salesman (who I have a great relationship with) and ask him if we can swap out without losing any money or should I leave it alone (probably my answer)

I doubt they'd do a straight swap but it'd be worth a grand or so (all else being equal) to go from a 328 to a 335. The issue would be the sales tax. Does TX have state sales tax?

For some reason I remember TX only taxing you on the difference in value between what you trade in and what you buy. Is that right? I wish that were the case in CA. It would make my relentless every-2-year car swapping just a little easier on the wallet.

Good point.. I may check into it.. The only thing is, my 328i has the sports and light package and I like my angel eyes, sports seats, body kit, and paddle shifters a lot... the 335i looks VERY stock... but aghh the preformance!

And omg I hope I don't have to pay that $2k sales tax all over again if I do.

There'd be no way to get around the sales tax unless the dealer treated the transaction as an unwind. Not sure of the TX rules on those.

My opinion? If you like everything about your 328 better than the STOCK 335 with the exception of the performance you should stick to what you have. Drive it for a couple years, get some benefit out of that sales tax, and trade up to a 335 the way you want it.

Thanks for your input... That's may be my best option. I really do like my 328 but the speed of a 335

They could treat it as a trade-in and you only pay tax on the difference.

Give it a shot. It doesn't hurt to ask.

IMHO. I'd stick with what you have. All those upgrades you mentioned about the 328 are things you'll derive value from every time you drive the car. The upside to the 335 with no other goodies is just the acceleration and you'll lose all those other cool items.

If you don't ask you don't get - just don't expect them to say yes.

That's a real good point... And honestly, I wouldn't be using the acceleration that much (I TRY not to have a lead foot) but it'd be nice to have! But having those little things that I enjoy everytime I get in my car will probably outweigh that.

Unless you get the 335i with the sports package and all you won't be as cool on the highway as you will with your 328i. If you do it, trade up and pay up for the 335i coupe. Vroom, vroom! And you can add the JB4 tuner and pin yourself into your seat on takeoff. I am now contemplating getting the meth system because I am getting sick of all these idiots challenging me off the stop signs and lights. Although I do beat them 90% of the time, I want to SMOKE them badly! Good luck! I wouldn't have a BMW unless I bought it for the ride (5 Series or better sedan) or kicking performance and handling (335 or M series). Although the 328i Coupe is what got me going to the dealership to buy a BMW. I wanted the 535i but once I saw the 335i for less and test drove, it was all over.

If it "was me" I would keep the 328 with the goodies and forgo the added hassle/expensive of getting the 335.

I bought a 2011 335i two days ago in Houston. I hope that wasn't the 335i you're talking about.

Edit: Read the replies. Mine has xenon lights/navigation and some other packages so I don't think they are the same, thankfully. Although, I wouldn't mind seeing what the listing price of the 335i in Dallas if you'd like to PM it (I looked in that area a bit before buying this one).

Ultimate buyer's remorse? No, wait...the 328i is well equipped and the 335i "looks very stock."

Pay the sales tax again? Ahhh, yes.

Re: Should I Give It a Shot?

The 328i is a sweet machine with a proven engine. I'd keep that one and enjoy the upgrades then trade it in later for a now overpriced, 435i CPO that will be readily available in 3 years. I can't really haul ass in mine around here for more than a mile or so off the line and my $600.00 payment kind of irks me every month (not counting Insurance).....ouch!
