Tail Light Bulb

2009 328i

Light Bulb warning light has come on.

when directional is turned on , it is very rapid. I checked and 3 of the LED lights aren't going on.

Does the whole tail light need to be replaced?

THanks in advance to all who reply.

If you are under warranty, go to the dealership and they should help you.

Thanks for the reply Mag, its not under warranty.

I would rather fix it on my own as it costs me $$$$ everytime i bring the car into the dealer.

Anyone else have this problem and fixed it on their own?

Not exactly, but on my E92 I've had the alert pop up for my brake lights. The main suspect was a poor design for only E92 pre 4/2008, high resistance reading.

You sure yours are LED? Are they aftermarket?

Anyway, the entire socket panel only cost me about $15 per at the time. Others with similar issues simply replaced the bulbs, but my issue was likely the actual panel, and it was so cheap anyway, I still have the old one with all the bulbs just in case.

For my car, it is literally only one plug to pull, and a lever to depress to remove the entire outer socket panel. (The inner light panels are a bit more work to get to, still not hard by any means, but not so simple that it takes only 10 seconds to remove.)

So you can try replacing bulbs only if you wish, and if that doesn't work, try a new panel. I find RealOEM as an extremely helpful tool to find the correct part numbers.

The lights are really dull compared to the other side. If the 3 LEDs are out, does this affect the other ones on this side?

Hm, I don't know. I started googling some questions, and ran into this thread, do you think it sheds any light on your issue? The weird thing though is that he says no CC ID is posted on his, but I don't take that to mean it couldn't happen. Whatever the reason, it seems that with our lights, the cheapest method could be to: clean/contact cleaner, try new bulbs, try new panel. If the panels are cheap as it was for me, I would vote that route.

Tail Light Bulb

I recall the outer unit costs like ~ $200. I know it is easy enough to install yourself. Unless you're handy cracking open the unit, it may not be the worst course to go down.
