Mein Auto: 2006 BMW 750
2007 x3 3.0 starter replacement

My wifes car is a 2007 x3 with the 3.0 engine and I need to replace starter. Can I do it from the bottom on thatcar? Thanks for any help

Afraid not. You have to do it from the top. The entire intake manifold comes out.

yikes!

Unless there is some change in design between an 05 and an 07 it can be done from the bottom.

Remove the driver side wheel, remove the black accumulator, the Starter is just above that.

You'll need looong extensions, like three or four of difference lengths, I ended up with about 2.5 to 3 feet of extensions with 1 wiggle joint right at the socket.

I was cranking all the way behind the transfer case, got all three bolts like that.

Reinstallation is reverse of removal.

Make sure you tighten all the starer bolts nice and tight, mine came loose after 8 months and I almost went crazy trying to figure out why my X3 wouldn't start!

while doing starter

do the mini accumulator vac hoses while in there ...... 5 bucks of ~ 3mm hose can save loads of where did that vac leak come from head scratching later

LOL, yes there was. The N52 engine began in 07.

X3 2007 N52 starter replace

for more info.

1. disconnect neg. battery cable
2. remove cabin filter
3. T30 to remove 4 screws to remove cabin filter housing
4. remove strut bar, engine cover
5. remove air filter box
6. 6mm socket to loose hose clamp, pull up big rubber boot
( no need to remove the small boot attached to throttle body )
7. remove throttle body electric plug
(label the connectors with step number)
8. 10mm socket remove 4 bolts to remove throttle body
9. T25 remove 2 screws to remove bracket
10. T25 remove fuel line attached to manifold
11. might need to remove the connector closed to fuel line bracket
12. remove 2 connectors on the fuel rail
13. remove connector at the oil filter
14. squeeze to disconnect the hard vacuum line
15. T45 remove 2 bolts to push steering fluid reservoir toward front
16. push out the plastic holder on the bracket of reservoir
17. remove 3 nuts, 4 screws to pull manifold up
18. move fuel line out of the manifold
19. move manifold toward steering fluid reservoir
20. squeeze + flat screwdriver pry connection to disconnect vent hose
21. might need to remove small connector under manifold to get more room
(google X3 valve cover gasket replace for vent hose removal)

22. squeeze + pull back the connector at starter
23. remove red cable at starter
24. 11mm box wrench to remove the back bolt from the driver side
25. E14 socket to remove the front bolt
26. remove ground wire bolted to engine (more room to pull starter out)
27. new starter, new vent hose
