fuel pump relay

Hello everyone
Have a 1980 320i just bought starter drags when fuel is being pumped to motor. Determined this because when no power to fuel pump the starter cranks over very well. Car ran good on 4 test drives. Drive it home and it don't like its new garage. Seemed to blown the relay so I waited all week for the new one ( car started with jumper installed) put in new one nothing. no power to fuel pump. When install jumper some times works sometimes not. (hear fuel pump running). The oddness is when fuel gets to injectors the starter drags but it starts. I feel its the fuel pump but don't understand why. Thanks for any help in advance.

new battery. With jumper in fuel pump relay starter drags sometimes won;t even turn over Remove jumper and it whirls over easily and if you stand on the throttle it will eventually start I am confused.

Wierd earth or termination problem. Carefully check battery cables and terminals (both ends). Could be corrosion in the wires/cables.
