is this a GENUINE BMW part?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-BMW-...5f7109&vxp=mtr

Recently my check engine light came on and I used a ODB2 scanner and it gave me the code P0128(coolant thermostat) Coolant temperature below thermostat regulating temperature. I'm guessing my thermostat has failed and stuck opened since i'm not overheating? Anyways, i'm thinking or ordering this and have an independent shop installed it. Anyone have a clue on how much would it cost to have it installed? I also notice that I had a faulty water pump and was replace at the dealership on Sept. 25, 2012 at 65k miles and I currently have 84k miles. I believe there should be a 2 year warranty on parts done? On the paperwork it does not show the thermostat was replace, just the faulty water pump. I would think that if they replace the water pump that the thermostat would be replace also? Is there any warranty/recall for the thermostat? I'm hoping to have the dealership replace the thermostat free of charge if there is any warranty or recall for the thermostat. One last thing, will driving the car in this condition cause any damage to the engine? I've been driving it for the past 2 weeks and everything seems normal. Any help would be appreciated.

Just had my water pump replaced last week by dealer under CPO warranty. I specifically asked if they replaced the thermostat and my service rep said no, it wasn't needed.

From my days of building short blocks and bikes I question this; seems if water pump is replaced then thermostat would make sense. But it's my first bimmer, so what do I know. (sarcasm)

Just for the meanwhile before someone with direct knowledge may help you, I would absolutely not drive the car with a broken stat until you are for 100% certain that you are okay to do so (which I so highly doubt).

As for the cost of the replacement, the most accurate way is to ask your indy! They all have an hourly rate, and they will quote you by the number of hours multiplied by this rate. Sometimes it takes less time sometimes more time, but the quote is what you will typically pay.

From what I can tell, it does look like the OEM part. However, when I plugged it in to RealOEM, and getbmwparts, I didn't get any more info about it. I wonder how one can know for sure.

I really think it's too bad when all the labor is done for something like the pump, and the stat isn't changed. I suppose the owner at the time just didn't know any better, or maybe it was suggested by the mechanic but still declined, who knows. I have read stories where some faulty plugs might be getting changed out, but the expenditure wasn't made to change all six, which you know, why the heck not if you're in there already, they're so cheap anyway. /rant.

I don't buy off of ebay but I have researched the issues related to Chinese "knock-off" auto parts to a great extent. The best place to find fraudulent auto parts is ebay.

What is the seller's long-term reputation?

I've been driving for 2 weeks now and everything seems to be ok. I actually have a pretty long commute about 170 miles everyday, 6 days a week. I've only owned the car for 3 months and already put 12k miles on it.

yea, It would make more sense if they replace both since they have to do all that labor.

If I would have thought in any way that they were not going to change it, I would have paid for a new one for piece of mind. I assumed (my mistake) that you replace wp, you replace thermostat.

Didn't realize until I read the work order and it showed as only part the wp, so that's when I asked.
