Rim/ Tire Q

I tow a race car and covered trailer. Some race weekends the round trip distance could be 600 miles. My prior X5, a '12, had the base wheel (18) and the standard RF (235x55x18). In the trailer I always carried a spare wheel and rim to fit the car in case needed. I did not trust the RF for this heavy albeit short-term use.

My '13 X5 has 255x50-19's.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether the old spare wheel/ tire is usable on the new car for short emergency periods during three-season use? These could be 300-400 "finish the weekend and get home" miles with deadweight of 4500 lbs in tow.

Is the only viable option getting a new wheel/ tire to fit the new car? Am I wrong about whether the RF could sustain this use temporarily?

Also, all I ever see is soccer moms driving these X5's and, frankly, my masculinity is really threatened every time I drive it. Would flames on the side and NRA stickers help? Sorry, couldn't resist.

First, you must be a real man to be able to drive that car and not

Using the specs on tirerack for a mich letitude:

Your old tire measured 28.2 inches or 739 revs per mile

Niew tire is 29.1 or 715 revs per mile.

IMO this is TOO big a mispatch.

You could just change the tire to something with more profile...that would be 29.1 or 715 revs per mile in a 18" fitment.

I would NOT rely on RFT (not every flat is a simple puncture) and the strain on the driveline with that much mismatch would be a concern for more than 50 miles at low speeds, without a load.

IMO
