Anyone else enjoying the 535i MT?

Personally I love it...but it seems like with a MT I'm missing out on all the savvy tech stuff as sport, comfort and eco. But who needs that when you can make your own choices while driving right?

Had my 2011 535i MT for about 4 months now and enjoy every bit of it, but after having a loner 2014 528i it just doesn't seem as powerful, am I blinded by the quick shifting auto...or I dunno.....just ranting and looking for other MT owners opinions compared to the Auto.

Sound off MT owners.

Would not drive anything other than a MT, to me it is so much more engaging and greatly enhances the driving experience. Yes the AT may shift faster but there is nothing like making it happen yourself. Plus resting your right hand on the leather MSport shifter beats the plastic feeling auto stick any day

I had a 2011 535 sport with 6MT. The auto is the better choice for this car IMHO. If I got another 5, which I seriously doubt I will, it would be with the sport automatic.

I enjoy mine very much - the SAT is objectively better but I personally prefer the MT. Driving is simply too boring otherwise. My car does have sport, comfort, and eco though they only impact the throttle response and steering (no dynamic shocks or sport+ in my car).

The AT/SAT cars are also faster, hands down. More gears, stays in the sweet spot longer, shifts faster, minimal powertrain loss vs. old autos, etc.

Love mine. 550 6 mt DHP. I can chose comfort plus, comfort, sport, or sport plus. I actually like comfort the most unless I am on a back country road or weaving thru a high speed highway ride. The gears are so smooth and the available v8 power is outrageous. Is it perfect?.... No. Getting a car of this proportion to do so many things right is amazing!

The LCI with SAT shifts even quicker than the pre LCI. It's almost DCT quick .

Do they use Clutch Delay Valves in the 5 series? The first thing I did with my 2 6-speed 3's was to do a CDV delete for much smoother shifts, it was like night and day for me. I've only driven manuals my whole driving life and that CDV made it so hard to get a nice smooth shift.

it's the weight and bulk of the F10 along with a short 1st gear..........I am guessing the 550 is a bit better since it has grunt for miles, but the 8-speed auto is still the best fit for 535 in 96.5%* of cases. I just don't feel like a sports car champion in it like I do in my E46 5-speed.

*I made that up

I would add that anyone thinking that this car is too big to have a manual transmission should think again. Yes I am partial to a manual transmission, however I will tell you that I had a 2011 535i MT that I was very unhappy with. The 2014 LCI made the 5er come alive. It now drives like a true BMW. The steering is much better, the suspension much stiffer and sporty and the manual gearbox is outstanding. Sounds like they made some real positive changes to the SAT shifting (much discussed in other threads), and I would add that noticable changes have also been made to the manual transmission (more torque earlier in the band). The car now really feels like it should have a 6 speed! This is another huge differentiator for me between BMW and the other two Germans. The fact that BMW still offers a manual in its mid size sedan is for me what sets it above the rest (not withstanding that the other two can't design a car if their lives depended on it).
