Photo Comparison: Spied 4 Series GC vs. 3 Series Sedan

This is an interesting comparison here, the 4 Series GC and the 3 Series.

”4gc3”

From the front, these two look pretty close. Just the regular 3-4 differences; grill, lower bumper and a wider, lower profile. You can see a more sloping roof line in the rear, starting just ahead of the camo, down to the rear deck. You can also see the flare in the rear fenders. Nothing crazy going on.

”4gc3”

The rear angle really shows what I think is the main difference, the sloping rear roof line into the rear deck area. I wonder how the head room is in the back seats?

”4gc3”

An even better view of the difference in the rear quarter. The nose looks a bit longer on the 4 GC, but that may just be the angle of the pic.

All in all, BMW looks to have turned the 4 Series Coupe into a 3 Series Sedan, with maybe less head room. That's just what I see. Maybe when the camo is all gone, a different machine will be revealed. What are your thoughts on the looks of the 4 GC?

I can't understand the point, I mean the roofline on the f30 looks better IMO.

I agree.

It does not (at least in those pictures) look anywhere near as good as the 6 GC.

In those picture 4GC looks like a 3GT. Interesting, because 6GC looks nothing like 3GT.

Here's a 3 Sedan and a 4GC

The 4GC looks better in this rendering, IMO not as good as the 6GC but not as awkward as the 3GT

And I think it would look even better with Sport Line trim.

I am all-in on the 4 Gran Coupe as I'm exactly who it's designed for.

Affluent but relatively thrifty. Sporty at heart but practical too. Want a 2 door racer but have too many kids for that. 4 GC hits all the high notes, will give me that sporty 4 Series look with the benefit of the much-needed 4 doors. Take an F30, chop the roof, squish it down wide, push back the cockpit, touchdown.

I like the 4GC's lower roofline. Gives it a bit more sleekness than the 3. It's what I would have been looking at if it had been available last year. If they actually call it a 4, however, I think it's just ludicrous for BMW to go through all the trouble of making a "new" series for two-door cars, then introduce a four door version of same. That's lacking in any sort of rationality. The should give it a 3 moniker.

I don't think the cockpit was pushed back.I also think that it will look much better in person than the camouflaged example in the original post. In those pictures it looks awkward but the rendered versions (examples below) seems to have much better proportions.
