Question Inaccurate oil readings

Oil light comes on after first oil change at the dealer. Oil topped up on two occasions. Light still comes on. Sensor replaced, oil reads maximum and then drops to just above minimum within half an hour. Three trips to dealer - no leaks. Oil is drained and measured but oil measurement is minimum. Dealer added a litre of oil which overfills the oil capacity and the sensor reads maximum. No dipstick just complicates matters.
Suggestions?

I'm not really sure what you are asking for us to suggest. Let's summarize:

1) If the vehicle isn't reading the proper oil level, then it is the dealers problem for them to investigate and fix.
2) If the dealer underfills the vehicle as a result of the oil change, then it is the dealers problem for them to investigate and fix.
3) Oil doesn't magically disappear. If dealer put in the proper amount, and now there is less then it is the dealers problem for them to find where it is going and fix.

Looks to me that the next step is pretty clear: take it back to the dealer for them to investigate and fix.

If you add a liter of oil, it will read max. Does the oil gauge still read full at first and then down to minimum after 30 minutes?

Has light ever been on at the same the new sensor is reading full? Or can you not get a sensor to read full?

Hopefully the problem has been solved. The computer was reset and the oil sensor replaced, but the problem persisted. The oil level would read maximum but after a test drive would read close to minimum. Dealer kept the car for a week and finally fixed the problem. The oil filter was replaced and now the oil level shows an accurate reading. I was told that hole in the oil filter was too large - either the filter was defective or it had been threaded on incorrectly. This caused too much oil to be released. I do not understand the logic but all is well. Fortunately the oil change with the oil filter issue was done at a BMW dealer so there are no warranty issues.
