Thumbs down Ever had iDrive and multi-function buttons freeze?

Happened tonight where the screen was stuck on "BMW" as soon as I started up. The radio was stuck on, couldn't mute or change volume or station from the steering wheel. To be honest, I didn't check if the dash radio controls worked. Took key out and started over a couple of times, locking car, opening, ignition on etc, but it was frozen exactly as before. I went in and read up about holding in the eject buttons and volume knob to reset the system, but when I went back to do this minutes later, all was well!

Any experiences of anything similar in any iDrive system? Mine is July 07 which is apparently CCC update 1 according to Wikipedia.

I think I know what happened. Your steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car. :-0

But the N52 engine was designed for right hand drive on left hand side driving. The exhaust tips are in close proximity to pedestrians walking by.

Thanks for the constructive feedback though

Yes. I was still under full warranty at the time. Had to do with my battery and the like $500 battery cable. Replaced the cable I know; traveling on biz and I don't remember if I got a new battery as well.

My CCC has done this too. Normally it's the TCU that hangs and causes the CCC to freeze up.

Did you get any errors in your instrument cluster?

No error codes. Just realized I couldn't do anything thru i-drive. I could adjust volume and stations with the head unit, so that narrowed it down. It was intermittent.

First time I took it in; "they couldn't recreate it".

Second time; went to the dealership service mgr. That's when they volunteered that there had been issues with the cable. Has worked fine ever sense cable was replaced.

All was repaired under the original warranty.
