Doesn't apply anymore. Do you thing they have advertisements like that in Germany, with a bunch of other cars in the background? They could now.

Prob. not. Advertising in the US allows (in some cases) for a comparative passive-aggressive approach.
Not in Europe or most of the rest of the world I believe.

Can you make out the last car in the background behind the Viper?

As much as I like the E36 M3. (My all time favorite M3) It's unlikely that it out-handles the NSX. At least the ad shows that BMW's intentions are in the right place.

NSX unlikely. Carrera 4/Turbo also would outhandle the M.

I would certainly say the Carrera 4 requires a more skilled driver to handle well.

Really? All proof to the contrary. Pre-996s were also more liable to switch sides on you for lift off oversteer.

i agree. from a pure feel of the road perspective my 83SC handles better than my 13 535xi. then again the only thing power in that car are brakes and windows...

BMW's ads used to be so raw, clever and badass. The M5 in the desert one was amazing.

It's not that their ads suck now, it's that advertising in general is this pander-to-the-lowest-common-denominator, knee-jerk humor, loud/obnoxious lazy culturally-entertaining approach of the moment, you just don't see hard-edged, biting things (because everything has become so bloated-ly desperately wannabe hard-egded and biting, but the intellect isn't there).

What bothers me most about modern car adverts is that every 4 door car uses kids as a way to entice you to buy a car. Sorry but if you want to attract a younger-adult demographic to your cars, making it appear as if every 4 door is supposed to be bought for kids in the backseat is good way to turn them off to "sexier" alternatives.
