2003 X5 won't start, smells like spray paint

I have a 2003 X5, it has lots of problems, but yesterday I started it up to move it from the driveway to the garage, and it smelled like spray paint after I shut it off. Today, I went to start the car, and it won't. Battery and starter are fine, just can't get the engine to catch and start. Any suggestions of what might be wrong? Not sure where to start. Checked the oil, and it was dry - so I will start with new oil. PLEASE HELP!

A flooded engine has a smell that could seem like spray paint. If you started the car cold and then drove it for a few seconds and shut it off, especially if you stepped on the gas pedal while you were starting it, you could have flooded the motor and fouled the spark plugs. If that's the case, you will need new plugs to get it going. It's always a good idea to let a car run for a few minutes after a cold start before shutting it down to burn off excess fuel which is injected to help with cold starting.

I'm not sure what you meant by the oil being dry. If you mean that you pulled out the dipstick and there was no oil on it, you might have problems more serious than fouled spark plugs.

2003 X5 (what?)??? There are 7 engines used in the e53....and 3 different available engines in 2003 (in the USA). Help us help you better...consider adding model identification of your X5 in either a permanent signature...or added to your vehicle info that appear at the upper right of your posts.
