My buddy wants to race me???

Ok. My buddy just bought a new Audi s5 and wants to race me tomorrow..

We are going from 0-100mph

How will I get my car to launch the best.. Put it in Sports plus and hit the brake and gas at the same time then let go of the brake??? I was playing around with it today and I could push the shifter to the left position and drive it normally. (Not manually shifting it) It felt faster. Any suggestions?? Thanks Harold.

This'll be interesting. I'm not into armchair racing, but the specs on the 2013 S5 manual is 0-60 in 4.7. The 2013 750LI is 4.7-7.8. Unless there's something quirky with his engine not being broken in yet, he may beat you. The AWD launch makes it pretty easy for even the stupidest person to just hit the throttle and go.

The problem with powerbraking is that your rear tire will break loose and you'll lose time one you launch. You'll have to practice just right to get it not to do that. Just leave it in Sport trans otherwise.

I don't encourage this sort of thing, but your friend just may beat you. You'll be trying to catch him from his AWD launch and he's in a much lighter car.

I assume you are doing this on a closed track. When I race, I put it in sports +, with the shifter pulled to the left. Power brake 2500-3000 and go. If you have xdrive, your tires will not spin unless they are worn out or wet. A pedalbox will help you off the line.

Ok. Thanks guys.. I do have X-Drive so I think that will help. It should be a good race. I just want to have the rpm's up a little bit on takeoff. I know he will be. He has a stick shift. Richard thats what I will do. Thanks. and yes its on a closed course.. I will let you guys know the outcome..

Ok here we go.. I just got in.. My adrenaline is friggin crankin right now!! Both stock cars.. We raced 4 times.. I won every race! Well so much for the 0-100 race. We went to 0-130.. Haha.. By the 60mph mark I had him by about a car and a half and by the 130mph when I let off I had him by at least 3 to 4 cars!! He was like damn that thing is fast.. Sorry no video as it was just the 2 of us and I was focused on driving not taking a video on my cell phone.. Listen to this.. After the 3rd race. He says "I hear a weird noise from my car" I was like ohh no.. He messed something up bad.. Turns out we look under the car and there was a piece of like a plastic cover.. It blew down and was scraping the ground.. I guess from the high speeds.. He was pissed and got under the car and ripped it off.. It covered something right beneath the car right behind the engine.. Don't really know what it was there for.. But he was going to call Audi tomorrow. He wanted a race and got it.. Haha.. Good times..

For real, an S5? I would think no way your big girl can run with that philly.

You gotta dyno and try a tune. The N63TU may seriously be underrated.

Gut the car by tomorrow lol the launch really doesn't matter with automatic. I'd turn tracion off press gas and brake at the same time then hop off the brake and floor the gas.

Pour some sugar in his tank, and you'll get enough of a head start to beat him.

If he had a stick, then that might have a little to do with it also.

I currently drive an Alpina and am constantly getting guys/kids coming up next to me wanting to race. I rarely, if ever, give them any satisfaction other than at the start.

I had a guy in an M3 try it and by the next light, he was asking me about the B7 through open windows.

Here in the south, people are generally very friendly and either ask me what it is or give me the "thumbs up".

I will say though that I do not like the transmission in the Alpina.

What year Alpina ?Assuming the same ZF 6sp us 09-12 750 guys have, at least you have a different software as it's super sluggish during WOT shifting on the the 750's that makes me cry

I'll tell the story sometime in the future. It is not a good one. and yes, it's a '13 with the 8sp transmission. The car is a beast and I love it 90% of the time. Let's just say the other 10% is spent on a 5 series loaner.

I wish they would have just used the engine/transmission from the M5/M6.

Re: My buddy wants to race me???

Run your engine by the machine shop, bore 0.60, sleeve w/titanium, titanium pistons, racing alcohol, BOOM.

Back to reality...just practice. See what combos work best with the car. I would leave it in full auto mode (AT shifts PERFECT) leave your foot buried in the pedal.

One extra note that'll save you down the road, leave your 7 idling for around 5 min after hard driving. Your oil pump and water pump are mechanical and need to cool the components (mainly the turbos!) They need their oil and coolant.

I don't understand why all 7s don't have a better engine/trans combo than the 550. Every engine option in the 7 should be better than the best option of the 5.
