Steering wheel binding and loud noise. Need Help

Ok so in my 10+ years of fixing, restoring, and upgrading my cars I have never run into this problem. I pulled my steering wheel to pull the dashboard in my 94 525 and when I went to put everything back together the steering wheel binds and makes a loud noise like you are snapping a piece of plastic in half. I have probably pulled a steering wheel off a car about 300+ times and never run into this problem. Is there so trick to these cars or did I break something? Everything went in really smooth and I didn't have to muscle anything in place. Let me know if anyone has a fix for this

Did you turn the shaft with the wheel off? My mechanic was telling me the other day that there is a spring somewhere in there. I also have done that too. I can't remember what it was exactly, but I want to say my issue was it rubbing on some plastic from like the dash or something.

No I never moved the car with the wheel off. Do you remember what you did to fix the issue?

It sounds like the clock spring in the wheel is buggered..

It plugs in for horn/buttons i believe.. Anyways.. Theres like a tab fir it that sticks into the column i beleve to wind the spring as you turn..

Pull the wheel off and check this maybe..

Does it actually feel like the steering is binding up when you drive? Or just audible clicking noise no feeling?

It was binding and making the loud snapping noise. I pulled the wheel and reinstalled it and it went away. I dunno BMWs are weird. Thanks for the reply.
