Help, I LOVE / HATE my 750i !!

Argh! I purchased a 2009 750i in Feb. 17,400 miles, CPO with a prepaid maintenance plan. It has now been in the shop about 5x, for about a week each. Rough idle/vibrations, would shake you out of your seat....finally found plastic outflow injectors were warped from the heat. Replaced with an improved version. Front cameras quit working. Replaced 40 feet of cabling, requiring trunk liner, rear seat, passenger seat and under dash removal. Now battling new rattles, squeaks, and a new WHISTLE which occurs sporadic at startup, neutral, drive, until about 40 mph.

Also frustrated with the often posted lack of smooth shifting and braking. Tranny reset did not help. Have had several episodes of false codes / reset. Continue to have well noted and posted powertrain whine. My SA said it was not the oil pump, but that the power steering fluid level was low. It does seem a bit better; but how do I know that they didn't just add some synthetic or STP? (And now I learn of the shameful social stigma of not having the RWS!)

This certainly has not been the Ultimate Driving Experience....for a car that listed new at $93k. If it wasn't for my love affair with the night vision and heads up display, this baby would be gone. Thanks for reading my rant....any thoughts appreciated.

That sucks to hear about the problems you've been having with your 7. 2009 was the first year of production of the current model. As difficult as it might be, it's usually best to avoid buying a car in it's first two years of production. There are always unforeseen problems that a car manufacturer won't know about until at least a couple of years into production.

Sorry man, that blows. I have a 2011 and it's been fine so far. Maybe trade yours in at the dealer? And don't let them gouge you since you have problems, it's their fault they aren't fixed.

Not to be a downer, but remember its a first model year vehicle. All cars, not just BMWs have a rough first year. The price the original owner paid to be the first on his/her block to have the newest and greatest.

Not everyone with an 09 has had lots of issues, but remember how many parts and motors these cars have, and again for the first year they're putting it together, they're learning what parts fail and need to be revised (via suppliers).

I wish you the best of luck, but at least you're not paying (much) out of pocket for these issues, and even better is that they're cropping up now, not after your CPO expires.

Chris

Rule of the thumb is wait a couple years with a new model because it usually takes that amount of time to address and fix the issues.

I had similar problems and some other ones. The shaking and lack of smooth shifting are still there slightly, its a weird relationship, i hate it sometimes, and some times i just want to go for a drive and enjoy it.

NEVER EVER BUY THE FIRST YEAR MODEL FOR ANY VEHICLE! The car is nearly 5 years old if it was sold at the end of 2008.

I'd get rid of it. It's going to cost you, time, money, and aggravation. Good luck!

Thanks for all the input!!

Thanks everyone for the input and thoughts. I am aware of the risks and kinks of buying a first year upgrade model....but the $ deal was too good to be true, and hey, with a CPO car and maintenance plan...I guess I hoped that would ease any future frustrations. One thing I didn't realize is the quirky nature of these UBER sophisticated, computerized gadgets of wizardry. But, this IS what attracted me to this model.

Now I need to decide on whether to trade, or buy the $$ extended warranty plan. As many have posted here, don't consider owning one of these beasts without a full coverage warranty in place. However, this site is full of frustrated owners, seeking resolution of problems thru multiple dealerships. It should not be a battle to get a +$90K vehicle running and riding smoothly. To be fair, I did trade from a Lexus 430LS which rode like cloud...to aggressive shear power.

Haven't seen the same tranny/braking issues about the '12 and '13 models.?.?.? Why would THE U D M be designed so touchy? This is my first experience with the BMW nameplate. I'm not yet sold to try another.

Check your State Lemon Laws. In California for example, the purchaser of a CPO'd vehicle, is afforded the same legal rights under their Lemon Laws, as a new vehicle. Have no idea about MO. but worth a check. Also, sometimes, if all else fails, a simple, yet nicely drafted letter from an Attorney can get you and your vehicle the attention you/it deserve!

you don't know how the orig owner treated the car, if he beat it, that could be some of your problems. I would wait to see if the problems settle down. I bought an 09 new, I have had to replace the turbos around 60 some odd thousand, but in general I have been very happy with the car. I would buy the 100k maintenance plan. it pays for itself the first time you have to replace your rear rotors( which will occur before 100k) not to mention all the other regular service.

Got a 2009 750Li, CPO no problems yet other than the oil consumption which I think happens on most of these vehicles. I'm no mechanic, but i think if you treat it right, you'll be ok, just IMHO.
