Just bought 545i (can't pass Inspection NJ)

Hey
I bought 2005 black 545i 130K. and I enjoyed it, I love the BMW cars. it has a lot of power.
In the beginning i replaced Spark plugs, and oil temp sensor. Next i replaced transmission fluid and pan (with filter). i had a leak between engine and trans from some coolant cover, so i replaced, also i replaced oil gasket in the engine between trans and engine ( crankshaft oil gasket-don't remember name). and 2 weeks ago i went to the MVC in NJ to do an Inspection, but i couldn't pass, because of no connection with OBD. i bought cable from Ebay, and i spend 5 days to make it works( INPA) on my computer. it took me lots of time. and i did connection with my car but a half of program is in English and rest of it is in Germany. I read in web site about my problem and i found if i have airbag light on then the OBD doesn't work. Yes, my light is on, and i have message PASSANGER Airbag fault. I don't know a lot about BMW cars, so maybe somebody from NYC or NJ area who has some experience can help me with this. I appreciate .

P.S
i am sorry for English, but i tired do the best.
Thank you.

How long have you owned the car? If you just bought it and are trying to pass inspection so you can register it, it's on the dealer. Not sure how it works for a private party?

Sounds like your OBD connector is intermittent, and unfortunately an OBD connection is a requirement for completing emissions testing.

If the passenger restraint fault is the only fault in your computer the car will pass as long as the connection can be made. If the check engine light is also on it will not.

Be careful clearing all codes as then you will have to drive about a week for the computer to sample the engine in order to create enough history again that the DMV can be assured that the emissions are being regulated.

Check the pins at the OBD connector... Sometime they get pushed in from people plugging in aftermarket scanners

I will check them in weekend, but today I connect my cable and I read info from INPA:

before I did anything allcodes,
I just cleared all of them, and few of them I couldn't clear.
I don't have any idea what can be wrong with my OBD.

Yasiu,

Read this: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=722945

Is this what you're experiencing? if so, the fix is easy (with INPA). E60>>Engine>>N52 [in my case]>>Shft F6 EWS -- Start value comparison and Shft F7 EWS CAS -- Start value comparison. In my case, EWS CAS resynched the modules and the car started right up.

Also, note the comment about "value" vs. "valve" in INPA.

If you've been cranking, you probably have run the battery down. Have a buddy jump the car if the fix above does the job. Take the car for a drive to charge up the battery so it's in good shape to start up tomorrow.

1. What is your INPA software level?

2. Does your INPA read an error for F6 (5 series) >>Engine >> ME9 for N62? Mine does, and many INPA users say there is no "ME9 for M62" file on INPA, the one apparently required for this engine.

3. If 2, above is true for you, when you first used INPA, you must have been using the selections for the wrong engine, such as the N52 and similar.

Please confirm that this is what happened, or not.

I went to the car and I checked "ME 9 for N62" it gives me an error "versions do not match, Malfunction possible" but I read a code
2F45 interface EWS-DME,
2F44- Maipulation prevention.

next I went to the MSU 70 for N52 (this looks like it is working and I have just here EWS, EWS CAS) and I would like to do

Yes, the 2F45 and 2F44 confirm you have the problem I described. IF you had the ME9 for N62 module, you could easily reset the problem, I believe. I posted a message asking if anyone had a working module for the N62, but no responses. Peculiar that this one engine seems to not exist on most releases of INPA. Perhaps if you post on BMW coding boards someone can help.

So, good news and bad. You know the problem, and it's an easy fix with the right software. Bad new is you'll probably need to have an indy fix it with a reset, unless you can find the N62 module for INPA somewhere online. Perhaps you can pay an indy to come to your house with a laptop and reset it for you. BTW, don't accept the BS that "your controller's broken". This is a simple reset that any dealer could do in a moment.

If there's anyone out there who can help yasiu, can you raise your hand?

First of all, check the electrical system. If voltage is too low, this will cause comm errors.

If you were messing around with the code reader, ignition must be on. This probably drain your battery and most likely why you can't start.

Try jump start the car.
