As an E92/E93 owner: Are You Tempted to Debadge?

Now that the F32 is hitting the market, and the F33 is just around the corner; I must ask the question:

As an E92/E93 owner: Are You Tempted to Debadge?

Personally, I kind of am, but the other part of me is proud to be the last of the naturally aspirated I6's out there.

So, if you did debadge your E92 or E93 - what was your rationale?

No.

Those who know that there is a difference don't need the badge to tell the difference and the rest if the population does not notice or care.

Hi kat-

I did, ran for months without my badge. My thinking was a clean trunk lid would be stealth but once I added an aftermarket sport exhaust, that theory went out the window and I found myself wanting to proudly add back what I had erased, the cars identity. Felt better too, right after the re-christening!

I am not a fan of debading, but I admit one of the sweetest if not sweetest E46s I ever saw was what I'm pretty sure was Imola Red, can't say which model, I don't know if and what aftermarket trim, lowered, likely with extra negative camber... that was debadged... I gave that one a pass. I don't know, this one was just done more tastefully somehow. I think that's the only time I thought debadging may* have improved the looks for me.

You already have the exhaust... vanity plate... might work out? It sure would be easier to polish and wax.

Never. I consider a 3xx badge a badge of honour especially when sitting behind a BMW L6 engine. I always try to leave my car as factory as possible.

This got me to thinking.

With all of the BMW E9x I see every day (and they are everywhere around here) I have never noticed one that was.

A. Debadged
B. Had the orange reflectors replaced with painted reflectors.

But then again most of the time I don't even know what city I am in,

I wouldn't do it because another model came out... I did it to both mine to clean up the trunk lids.

I'd debadge a performance version of a car -- I've always liked sleepers, so if I ever bought an M, the first thing I'd do is debadge -- but not a 328i.

(Certainly not my 328i station wagon! It's supposed to be slow!)

I have considered taking the 335 badge off of the trunk to A.) Clean up the look of the trunk, and B.) Have non-BMW enthusiasts (who don't know what to look for) guessing. Judging from the types of cars that think that they can run with me, I'm guessing most people already assume it's just a 328, so why not add to the confusion!?

im thinking of debaging mine because the "335i" takes an extra minute or so to clean up. It's much easier to clean that area without the numbers/letter in the way. I'm officially putting the car up for sale starting Monday so I won't do it yet in case if it may affect the sale.

The wide dual exhaust is a 335 tell.

Actually, with the Performance Exhaust it is kind of fun to get peoples attention as they're walking toward the car then have them turn to look back at it (to see what it is??).

I would never debadge an M - that would be sacrilege; a 335i only under certain conditions - ie heavily modded, and last but not least a 328i definitely, just to keep them guessing.

That's the thing... Nobody not in the know would even be looking or caring. Every one of us just looks at the tailpipes and knows in seconds.

To me this is a purely cosmetic mod. But I must say, as mentioned earlier, not having to clean & wax around the stupid numbers is liberating. Never thought of that before.
