My guess.....C&D gets more attention recently by making the benchmark lose these comparo "tests". I guess having a BMW win in every catagory on the front page of a magazine doesn't sell as many anymore. Not to say that the BMW should have won this but it certainly should have been within the top two. If they are going for handling then they should have went with a RWD Msport car.

Very similar to consumer report's automatic recommandation for all things Toyota and Lexus. Now all of a sudden, the Corolla is no longer on the C&D recommanded list.

They did the same thing with the comparo of the 335i and the IS350 (winner)... when the scoring points were analylized it was very obvious that in reality the 335i lost due to the exterior/interior styling points and not because of objective performance.

To me that comparo was more to shock than to compare.

Now they get the weakest F10 (heaviest, no sport suspension) available and compared it to its top form competitors and declare that this is the weakest F10. Oh, thanks.

And yet, this F10 still beat the E350 in performance. Can someone explain to me how the E350 beat out the F10?

Has there been any other publications where E350 beat BMW???

I agree Audi has been making some amazing progress. My buddy has the 2014 A6 TDi - but it only makes me wish I would have considered the BMW diesel.

Bingo. It's hilarious. I'm sure they would be praising C&D if the BMW came in first place. Can't have it both ways.

Of course, I have. Got one as a loaner 2 weeks ago. The car just reeks of mediocrity. For the same, I'm buying a loaded Accord/CC/Mazda6

Only badge whores would buy a base 320i with no options.

I can't believe C&D rated the A6 higher in Exterior Styling. I thought about looking at the A6 before settling on my 535 because the A6's chassis and drivetrain is very good, but I just couldn't get my head around how plain the A6 looks. The 5er is a beautiful car (I thought so from the first moment I saw an F10 on the road) while I can't tell an A8 from an A6 from an A4. I think the A4 is the best looking of the bunch of Audi sedans, but that's not saying much.

You have to admit, it pretty hard to tell the difference between a 3 series and a 5 series now a days too.

Butt hurt? Don't think so. I still look forward to driving my LCI every day and do a double take while walking away from my car when its parked.

If they ranked the F10 worse than cars that are actually better than it so be it. Doesn't change a thing. Magazines have been ranking the A6 ahead of the F10 for awhile now and it doesn't make me want to go out and buy one right away nor say that it doesn't deserve it. Now with the Eclass and the CTS thats simply a joke. I have yet to read any other magazine say that the Eclass is better than the F10 in any category and now all of a sudden it is? Makes no sense.

The face lifted E Class got hit with a ugly stick and now its magically better than the F10. Right. There is one parked near my house and I always wondered how someone who designed such an ugly front fascia could not get fired immediately over at Mercedes Benz. Not to mention the interior doesn't even compare to the F10 in terms of quality and design.

I'll take my 4th placed LCI over any of those cars any day of the week.

Every time i see one of these on the road I just can't help but to chuckle a bit....

As for the Nose Job E350, I am looking for a Dark Gray car so it hides the plastic surgery better. (see attached)
It comes with standard LED headlights and needs to get H&R springs right away.

I keep my garage divided, just in case either side have Conquest Cash offers

Funny you paste the base stock picture .... I already know you to be bmw fan boy ..... but anyways to be fair to the E class here is a picture that better represents the Facelift.

I am going to be super cautious on the new chrome front splitter. Can't touch up on that piece.

Am i suppose to post up a modified picture of the ugly E class? The picture you posted looks exactly the same as the one i did. If there is a difference it is so minor its irrelevant.

Sorry but the facelifted Eclass is just ugly in my eyes Bmw fan boy or not. Looks like MB gave a teenager to design the facelift and said "Go wild......just to the front of the car though..." I'll take the pre face lifted E over the new one any day.

I like the E350 Sport look - i think it looks much better than the old, stuffy look. It sounds like I am in the minority though. However, I prefer the exterior of the 5 series, then E350 Sport and then Audi A6. I like all of three, but think the A6 is bland on the exterior.

Someone at BMW should seriously be questioned internally about why they put an x-drive in this test. Sure, the Audi is all-wheel drive but the MB and Caddy were not. They did not even submit a DHP sample of the xdrive! I can't for the life of me understand why they would not have submitted a RWD with M Sport Suspension... I mean they get one chance to get this right with the new batch of reviews....

It didn't even have the sport transmission... and then C&D comments that it didn't!

Latest C&D Comparison Test places LCI 535 Last....

The F10 is an awesome car, although BMW didn't design it in a way that wins car magazine tests. I do also agree that BMW could have picked a better optioned car for this comparison.

I love my F10. Let's face it though, F10s are heavy and sprung a little softly on their best day. It's a beautiful car and I enjoy mine each time I drive it - but I will be the first to admit that I would love it all the more if it weighed 300 pounds less and had a suspension like my E60 545 did.

They say that is what the A6 feels like, which is why it keeps winning.

I can't imagine any situation where I would buy a CTS over a BMW. I might consider an E-Class Coupe, but the sedan looks too stodgy.

In the introductory page they did mention that a RWD 5 was not available so they took the Xdrive. Still in my mind technically it was an imbalanced test. They should have either gone with all contenders having AWD or RWD with the exception of the A6 which is only available as AWD.

In recent years C&D has moved into more sensational/tabloid journalism. Having an upset outcome causes more controversy and sells more magazines. I really do not understand some of their subjective scoring categories which make the difference between 4th and 1st place as mentioned by other posters.

BMW may have had a better chance had they offered the 704 sport suspension on the Xdrive as well. I had previously owned an A6 and can understand some of their comments on the sprightliness of that model compared to the F10. However the BMW is a level above in interior quality and exterior design as well as overall refinement. The MB just did not appeal to me in overall appearance or interior design and the NA power-train is lacking. The CTS is the new kid on the block but has too many unknowns in terms of how it will perform over the longer term.

I am extremely happy with my personal vote of confidence in the 5 by ordering an LCI.
I will probably still be a C&D subscriber but will not be drinking the Kool-Aid..

This just goes to show how much my tastes care for car reviews. I always bought Audis when BMWs were winning reviews and now I have an F10 that I couldn't be happier with. Few of points on this review:

01 Unless the Audi has DRASTICALLY changed the suspension on its sports package there is no way it beats the bimmer in ride quality. Remember, unlike the F10, you have to live with the Audi ride no matter the sport setting because it does not even offer adjustable damping on the A6. In my EXTENSIVE test drive of all 2013s the harsh ride of the A6 made me change my search to a non-sports package A6.

02 Where's the Lexus? Aren't they supposed to get a new 8-Speed tranny to help their case?

03 Driver comfort greater in the Audi? Have their rock hard seats changed for 2014 as well?

Like always nothing serves a buyer better than an individual test drive. Even more relevant with the multitude of options available these days which literally transform the car you drive.

This is a joke. I drove an E350 LCI from Hertz last week and the car was a total piece of ****. I was tempted to take it back to Hertz and swap it for an Infiniti.

I drove several MBs over a 20 year period. I found that starting with the 300 and then 320 series, problems, big and small. My last two cars have been BMWs:a 325i and now a 528i. I bypassed the 2011, 300 and 350 series and chose the 5 series as an overall better car for ME including quality of exterior and interior, drivetrain and quietness. Better economy too!! I couldn't care less what any short-term auto reviewer thinks about my humble 528i. It's paid for and a great overall driver. As for MB styling:mediocre. Audi:hate those overly big front grills which look like snow shovels.Cadillac:Improving but depreciation?? I agree with Grover132 review. But, I would find a 550 a bit too engine etc much for my sedate, relaxed driving style.OK.Maybe a 535 next time. I have driven all except the new 550 and tried out the new 350 Benz--unimpressed with interior--nice but liked the BMW 5 interiors which are all fairly similar inside except for those with bolstered seats and other extra options.

I might be in the minority here, but I think the front fascia is the best looking part of the new E-Class.

Paging K-A, K-A you're wanted in this thread.

I cancelled my C&D subscription years ago even though it was cheap. I get a lot more data than I need from a ton of different sources. Based on the content of this comparo, I'm not too surprised by the Audi win. C&D loves Audi. And the CTS is certainly earning some praise. But to have the E350 win over the 5 is blasphemy. Styling is subjective of course. I loved the styling on my W211 E. It is an absolute disaster with the W212 though. Now the front is over LED-ized with those silly arrows. The interior is blah. I wouldn't touch the current E at nearly any price. But after having driven the E on several occasions, it is a total snooze-fest. When people complain here about the handling or steering of the 5, go drive the E. The steering is so light and uncommunicative that I almost drove the thing off the road.

This is not to say the 5 is flawless. It certainly is too heavy and lost some of that sporty feel. And they obviously didn't try to use the navigation to get where they were going. But it is superior to the E.
