Getting new F15 and need a new phone

I've been an android user for 3 years but from what I'm reading the iPhone is better integrated with connecteddrive. So let's hear it - which one?

iphone 5

I'm not sure which phone is best, but I own an iphone 5 and will pick up my new x5 next week. I went online to shop for an iphone 5 cradle and read that the "BMW Apple iPhone Media / BMW APPS Version Snap In Adapter" works with the iPhone 4. I didn't see one for an iPhone 5.

what's the need for an iphone adapter? What advantage does the adapter have over a USB cable?

They do make 5, 5c, and 5s Adapters if your vehicle already has BWM Apps.
NOTE: I understood also that iPhone is the best fix and that BMW and Apple were very into the combo. HOWEVER, to our disappointment, the iPhone does not support the e-mail, SMS or Text display. Some other phones do. There is a page that you can use to check all of this out.

Come on, I know most of you have smartphones. Bmw is supposedly improving android support. Are they succeeding?

BMW told apple their not going to full iOS in the car, but integration wise it's alll apple. Droid integration is not good in BMW land.

CAUSE EVERY TIME someone says Lexus has better build quality, one should consider what Toyota their Lexus Engine and chassis platform comes out of and how long that part has been tested in the real world!

I read that "Eye Free" - the Siri integration, is on the F15. One poster confirmed it.

I understand that the apps are best supported by iOS but also by at least some Android phones.
However BMW office (text and emails on screen) is NOT supported by iOS.

I called them asking which phone to get so that both would work and was advised that they are aware of the issue and basically BMW refuses to deal with it other than by way of vague promises of future updates.

If anyone is aware of a phone which would work with both emails and apps, please post!

5S or 5C. as i stated earlier.

Only update:

CarPlay is gonna a be awhile, and mostly likely best supported by the successor of iDrive 4th gen and 5S.

The only phone that I could recommend for that is a Blackberry. During the initial launch, Blackberry worked out of the box. However that ecosystem is basically gone, compared to say iOS and Droid. However with iOS 7 brings email, texts support on IP5/C/S. I know Droids are Great devices, but BMW has always been on the Apple tree, so why deviate. Plus if CarPlay were to be enabled as a software package, you`d be better off with the iOS device then say Droid.

Currently according to Cnet, theres a divide between car mfg and their alliances.

BMW and MB is part of CarPlay
Audi is part of Google's Open alliance.

They stated that later down the line, since these two techs are just Software frontends, they can coexist. But for the time being the line is drawn firmly in the sand.

Again I would highly wait till the 6 is launched, since you will get your money's worth when its released (form factor is going to be different), but if you need the device badly you cant go wrong with the 5S or 5C.

If your leaning towards Droid, I would ask AutoUnion. Hes got more experience in using a Droid as your primary device in the BMW.

iOS integration on iDrive is unbeatable. I don't use my 5S much, but it always work well.

I am a primary Android user and it works, but is sometimes buggy. Texts also work.
