Replaced Starter and Air Mass trouble

I replace the starter on my 2007 X3 and runs okay without the air mass sensor. When I connect the air mass sensor to the harness the motor shuts down. Does someone have an idea why that may be. Thanks

Weird. Almost sounds like the sensor is broken or has a short in it that shuts the car down. Has anyone been messing with it? Are there any codes being thrown? Does it shut down while the connection's made while running? Will it start & run okay if it's hooked up before it's started?

Thanks for your reply ilex. No one has messed with the sensor. I get two codes P116E which I can not find info on and P0113- INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH. It shuts down while running and will not start if connected when starting.

I exposed the intake manifold and found a hose that plugs into the center of intake came loose. I connected the hose and that took care of the problem. Thank you.

Cool. Clear the codes & keep fingers crossed they don't come back....
