1983 European BMW M20 power problems

Hello,
I'm new to the community and my son and I have been working on his 1983 BMW (gray market) with the M20 engine. His has the distributor on the drivers side. We have replaced wires, plugs, exhaust manifold gaskets and timing belt and tensioner. At current we have an issue of being very weak on start off. Once the engine hits about 2500 to 3000 rpms it has power and pulls good. I have adjusted timing 10 ways to Sunday and not much difference so I'm assuming it's not a timing issue. During the timing belt replacement the distributor did move but with both marks (on the cam and harmonic balancer) in line i was able to just shift the plug wires around to have the rotor button on number one plug wire. We have had issues finding info for engines with the dizzy on the drivers side.
Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Thank you for your response FatherFigure. Okay we went back thru the timing belt today. re aligned all timing marks and the dizzy and still have the same issue. Before we took the timing belt back off when set at top dead center both marks on the cam shaft and crank were lined up. Setting in neutral it revs and idles fine. in gear it will bog down as u release the clutch and try to move. could we have other issues? TPS or something?
Thanks

Have you crossed a pair of HT leads? Is the fuel pressure/pump/filter OK?

Found the problem

ok so i recheck timing, plug wires and tested fuel pressure and volume. Still being at a loss I was checking all the connections and when i unplugged one of the white wires on the MAF sensor it would rev up and hold the rpms just fine. So after a test drive and a few burn outs lol with it unhooked i'll be in the market for a replacement or aftermarket sensor.
Thanks for all the help. Just wanted to make sure i posted the fix for any one else having similar problems.
Thanks again!!!
