It reminds me that I wish I had replaced my original tan top with a black top when I had the chance. Our cars have black vinyl-covered windshield frames. It blends with your black top. With my car's tan top, the black vinyl stands out like eye-liner mascara. I don't under stand why the Z3 designers put this black vinyl on the early year cars.

I have a tan top and just replaced it with a new tan top but the inside of both tops were/are back. I think the top I replaced was the original. Isn't yours black on the inside? The rest of my car's interior is tan.

The color of my car, interior, top and inside of top are the same as yours.
What you probably don't have on a 1998 is black vinyl tape applied over the paint around the side and top of the windshield.

It does not look so bad on a dark car with a black top, but on a light or red car with a tan top, it reminds me of eye-liner make up.

You can peel the tape around the windshield with a heat gun and some elbow grease, should be clearcoated and painted underneath, seems like you don't care for the look...
