Any disadvantage in not buying local?

I'm in the market to buy a 2014 X5. In reading the forums here and elsewhere, it seems like invoice + $1000 seems to be a good deal.

I've contacted my local dealer with that offer and they've been less than eager to take me up on that offer.

I'm considering shopping online with other dealers in a 200 mile radius. Would there be any disadvantage to buying from a dealer other than local. Can I get all the included maintenance service with my local dealer even if I didn't purchase the car from them?

Thanks for your help

No disadvantage whatsoever - go with whoever is giving you the best price. You can always go back to the nearest dealer for regular service.

Dealers make money servicing your car so they will gladly do so even if you didn't get your car from them. One potential disadvantage is that they might deny you some of the perks like loaner cars. There's a sign posted at my local dealership that says owners of cars not acquired form this dealership are not eligible for loaners. However, there's nothing that an occasional tip to your SA won't solve. I got my car from an out-of-state dealership and I always get the nicest loaners my local dealership has when I take my car there for service. As stated above, get your car from the dealer who gives you the best deal, no matter where that dealer is...

It all depends on your dealership. Some dealers give a rats ass. Others want you to be loyal and take care of you above and beyond the average shopper. I have purchased most of my BMW's from the same dealer and they have always beat or matched any other deal that I could find.
