Problem with front speakers - 2006 325i

I have a 2006 BMW 325i with 66,500 miles on it. The front speakers on the driver side do not work. Nothing. Is this a common problem with this model? I really don't have the cash right now to take it somewhere to get fixed. Is there something I can do myself to fix this issue?

Thank you

Take the door panel off and see if you are getting current to that speaker. How long has this been happening?

If you have the Hifi or top-Hifi (L7) system, check the trunk area for water. The amp sits on the driver's side, below the plastic cover. Pull up the cover and you'll see either a black (hifi) or silver( L7) amp.

If you do find water, remove power from the vehicle. Find the leak by pouring water over the trunk, while it's closed, see where it leaks. It normally by the seal along the trunk opening. Fix it.

Then worry about your amp issue.

+1 to the above comment. That is also a good thing to check.

front speakers

If one is kaput, consider changing both speakers with Bavarian Sound Works or other higher quality aftermarket speakers.

Don't get BAV sound speakers. Yes, the installation is easy, but they are way too expensive. They sell a 10'' sub that can fit in your luggage compartment door inside your trunk for close to $1,000. One of my speakers in the back blew out, so I got these Rockford Fosgates for the rear

They have tweeters built in. You'll notice they they have 4 holes for mounting, and the stock BMW ones have 3. If you take out the tweeters in the bck, you can get 3 of the holes lined up with the stock holes. It looks kind of messy, but they stay put and once you put the cover on you won't see them.

You'll have to snip the stock chord towards the end and then expose the wires. The cord is really temperamental, so this is a difficult part. Then just match positive to positive and negative to negative. You can also do the two speakers in the front doors. I was so impressed by the sound of the Rockford Fosgates that I got two more to instal in the doors. It's a lot trickier than the rear speakers, but if you decide to do that, I could take some pictures to show you my installation.

It's $400 for 4 of the BAVsounds, $100 for 4 of the Rockford Fosgates.

Here's a video tutorial for removing your door panel. It's quite simple :
