One fog light lit during day driving?

Anyone else noticed weird behavior with the fog lights? I have noticed that one fog light is lit during my morning drive when the lights are automatically lit. I have also noticed that both fogs are lit when I put the car in reverse. My headlight switch is always in the adaptive position. Hitting the fog light button turns both on, but one remains lit when I turn the switch back off. Weird.

Several months ago, I noticed that just one of my fog lights was lit when the car was running in our driveway.

I then suspected it was because the front wheels were turned to that direction (active lighting?), but I am not totally sure.

We then moved the car and it was normal. I was never ever able to figure out what was really going on, and haven't seen this since.

Oh, and the fog lights were in the off position...

One fog light will come on if the steering wheel is turned in that direction. It acts as a cornering lamp. Could that be it?

Or anyway, that was how my old E60 was. My F30 M Sport doesn't have fog lights at all.

You have active fog lights. In reverse both fogs will illuminate even with switch off. When turning or with blinker on, fog lights will also auto illuminate regardless of fog light switch being active. Weird feature but I guess bmw saw merit in the function.

My 2008 E92 had the same feature. It can come in handy.

I think it's part of Obamacare.

BTW, can you say "Impeachment?"

I just posted a thread about this a couple minutes ago without seeing this one. It seems that the fog lights are adaptive and turn on when turning the wheel in either direction.

From the manual:

"In tight curves, e.g., on mountainous roads or
when turning, one of the two front fog lamps is
switched on as a turning lamp. As a result the
inside of the curve is better lighted."

I just noticed this a couple of days ago. I understand the feature but I think it makes the car look silly (even if it is just temporarily) when a low level single fog lamp is on....people on the other side of the road must be thinking our lights dont work! I feel the same way when I see an Audi's DRL go off when a car is turning...
