Can't really tell from the picture, and I'm not a mechanic or much of a DIYer. However, the06 models are notorious for leaking at the valve gasket covers. The bolts used to secure the covers are prone to breaking and allowing oil to leak. Could be the problem here but I can't tell.

Here's a trick.. put some card board underneath for the nite and start by locating the general area.. remember oil can start in one area and by the time it hits the ground its completly different ..work ur way from the top down.. removing splash plan helps in locating ..good luck

Thank You for reply. I really can't enspect the car because I was checking it out to buy. I'm speculating if I get good price I could take care of the leak just don't want it to be some serious problem.

well you could negociate and tell them to fix the leak, valve cover gasket or the oil filter housing gasket seems to be where most leaks occur

From the info and pic supplied, there is but one conclusion: It's coming from your engine, or suspension bushing[s]. Maybe both. Or it's brake fluid, or power steering fluid.

Though you may be fishing for tips on what to look out for, that isn't likely to help you much. "WHY?!" you say. Reason: There is much that can go wrong in such a complicated and highly tuned car. Some you can see; whole lot you can't. A good example of why you should comission a pre-purchase inspection from a qualified BMW Indy!

Yeppur, there is no substitute for experience. And, there is no substitute for a lift....

I first noticed oil from the top next to washing fluid fill tube, it's hard to see but there is oil stain all the way on the bottom.i think it's the oil pan gasket...
