What is this Alert?

First time BMW owner (2011 323i).

Getting an alert when the car starts for a few seconds then goes away.

2 places in manual that reference this (that I could find) are the Control check messeges and oil level.

There are No control check messeges coming up (Shows OK), and oil level is fine (through instrument panel check).

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

I think it may be.

To be fair, per the supplied photo the OP is asking not about the snowflake but the small exclamation-mark-in-a-triangle symbol below it. That icon appears while there is any active check/warning message, including the freeze warning. It goes away when the triggering condition is corrected. The low-temperature warning is only active for a few seconds, so it usually clears itself before you can pull up Check Control messages.

Fixed...? The alert trips at 3.0 °C/37 °F (in US cars, anyway ).

Thanks for all the comments but I am referring to the exclamation mark alert in the pic. Checked my control check messegs oil and both OK. It goes away after a few seconds but don't know why it even comes up. If it is related to the cold alert as Zeichen311 stated then I should be fine. Appreciate the feedback.

It is an indication that your car has stored some kind of "error/failure" code that has not been cleared. Pages 65 & 66 in the owner's manual. It doesn't necessarily have to be anything major. A while back I left my parking lights on and had to have my car jump started and it caused a small electrical surge that blew out my led "angel eyes". I've had that symbol ever since. Haven't had the symbol cleared and it is still lit. It's been more than a year.

Yeah...absolutely incorrect. If you go into check control, it will tell you what the warning is about. OP could also just go to check control and see why the symbol is there...most likely warning him of temperatures below 3 degrees. It also isn't a failure code because he said it goes away after a few seconds. What does your car say is the reason for the light?

Why don't you try reading what the OP wrote and looking at the symbol the arrow is pointing at.

Mine does it also. When I start the car the "exclamation" symbol is on for a few seconds and then goes away. I believe you are correct about an error/failure code because my thermostat failed recently which cause the SES light to go on and that's when I notice the exclamation symbol also. Now that I replaced the thermostat the SES light is gone but I still see the exclamation symbol when I first start the car. How would I clear exclamation symbol?

Oh, come on, folks. Everyone's car shows the exclamation point on startup while the snowflake symbol is on and goes off when the snowflake goes off. OK, I'll correct that. My car does, has since the first time the snowflake came on, has every time since, doesn't store any codes, and I'm assuming everyone else's car does the same as well.

It comes on when the low fuel symbol is on. It comes on when my seatbelt isn't fastened.

The exclamation point is a general "I've got something for you to notice" symbol. Zeichen had it correct 13 posts ago. Don't sweat it in this case.

Yeah, you realise the snow flake symbol is a warning that it is below 3 degrees, right? And you realise the little exclamation mark means there is a warning? Put the two together...
