New 2014 M6 Gran Coupe....1200 mile service questions

Hey guys, I am almost to the 1200 mile service interval. I have read that the rear diff fluid, engine oil & filter are to be changed. I have also read that there is a software update (performance related) that is to be performed. Can anyone verify the validity of the software update? I can't find any definitive info regarding it and I'd like to be educated on what to expect from my dealer.
Thanks!

Engine oil and filter are changed, diff oil is changed, manual transmission oil is changed but not the DCT transmission oil. 'Something' is done in software, I don't know if it's an update or just coding, which enables Launch Control. Make sure that they know NOT to use TWS, the S63TU uses Edge Professional 0W-30 (or whatever it's called in the US) and not TWS 10W-60 as all other M cars do.

I just had the 1200 mile checkup and they used the 10w60 oil. I checked with them and they said that this was a recent change.

Interesting! I'm scheduled for this coming Wednesday. We will see what they say about it. Question for you on your service.. Did launch control become active after your service? I can't get it to engage.

Haven't tried it yet. Car had to go back in for some warranty work and I won't get
it back for another 2 weeks.

Oh god, not another oil type confusion from BMW!!!

How can they change the spec from 0W-30 to 10W-60 for the same engine! Either they don't know what they are doing or the oil type is irrelevant!

The only change I'm aware of is that in the middle of 26th June 2013 they changed the recommended service interval from 24,000 Km/2 years to 15,000 Km/1 year in the US. And by 'middle of 26th June' I mean literally some cars made on that day are one interval, others are the other! In the UK we're still on 30,000 Km/2 years, some markets have 8,000 Km/1 year - I mean really, how can the same engine have such vastly different service requirements?

Ok, service performed. 5w30 was what they said was called for. They were clueless about launch control and, well, it still don't work! Called BMW and were more clueless than the dealer. I don't really know what to do next.

There's a BMW document (PDF) out there titled, "F12-F13 M6 Complete Vehicle", and in it it states:

Quote:
During the first 5,000 km/3,000 miles the launch control should not be
used.The 2,000 km/1200 mile pre-delivery check must be performed
and reset/confirmed with ISTA (do not reset via the instrument panel
service function as the launch control is not released).
Don't know if this helps, but at least something to point to with your dealer.

Well, I'm at 2200 miles on this thing and so far I'm not very impressed with the build quality...passenger side roof drip rail trim came loose and signaled its departure by insistently slapping the roof while driving at 60 mph (had to fix it myself because my dealer is a joke) and now I have a mystery rattle in the area of the instrument cluster! Sad really.
Good news though...only 34 months left on the lease! After that, I'm going back to MB!

Sounds more like a dealer issue. I'm just over 10K miles, probably the most solid car I've owned so far. Do yourself a favor and find a dealer that knows the car, both from a sales and service perspective.

Wish I had the option of another dealer. Next closest one is over 100 miles away.

I must digress and admit that power train wise, this thing is masterful! I love the car actually, it's just the little issues that are trying my nerves.

The oil of choice by the dealer for these cars is indeed 5W-30.

I asked that 0W-40 Castrol be used for my 1200 mile service and the dealer responded that 5W-30 is the correct oil.

The owner's manual lists 0W-30 and 0W-40 as the correct oil but also lists 5W-30 and 5W-40 as viscosity grades that can be used.

I would expect the thicker Castrol 0W-40 to provide the best protection for BMW's most powerful engine.

I am also having issues with trying to get launch control to work, complete newby to bmw and launch control in general. I have a M6 gc 2014. mileage just under 15000, had 1200 service run in. Engine temp at first bar, DSC turned off by holding down button shows the symbol of car with skid marks, tried it with mdm off too put into sequential, lightly hold down brake and gear up and hold in position - revs to 1000, but no symbol to say launch control is active, handbrake off - is this correct, help please?

MarcMaddox... MB... that is funny. My father purchased a new S550.. broke down on the way home... they brought it back.. could not figure out the issue... so they gave him another new one, on the way home with that one, he heard a horrible grinding sound, I guess all the transmission fluid leaked out and the transmission came apart. He went back to Hyundai...... so I guess we should all trade in our BMW's and MB's for Hyundais....
