Chuck,
For the sunrise tour, do we have a deadline on when we need to leave to head back down the mountain?
I think watching the sunrise will be an awesome experience and I'm really looking forward to this.

Once you are at the Summit you can stay until the road closes.

We have a number of attendees who are interested in the Sunrise Drive so it is definitely going to happen.

I will add the question to the registration page and if you are already registered PM me and let me know if you are interested in the Sunrise Drive or the 9:00 AM drive.

On Sunday the 22nd the MWAR opens at 3:30AM and Sunrise is at approx. 5:00AM

Changing your choice at the last minute (i.e. 3:00AM Sunday ) will not be a problem but we would like to get an idea of how many will be in each group.

Pictures from the summit

One of our members who lives in New Hampshire (and wishes to remain anonymous) was kind enough to hike to the summit of Mount Washington yesterday and take a few pictures so that those of you who have not attended our previous events would see how spectacular the views are.
Unfortunately the weather was not ideal.

PM me if you would like the High Res versions.

Captain,
We are interested in the "early riser" option as well. Curiosity question: - can you find out from the MWAR folks if the snack bar at the summit house will be open for breakfast for early risers; if not when does it open?

Thanks!

Sunday, June 22 open at 3:30 AM
Sunday, July 27 open at 4:00 AM
Sunday, August 31 open at 4:30 AM Sunrise is at 6:00am

The Mt. Washington Auto Road will open early on three Sundays in 2014, allowing guests to drive themselves to the summit of Mt. Washington to view the sunrise from the highest peak in the Northeast. On June 22, the Auto Road will open at 3:30 AM, on July 27 at 4:00 AM and at 4:30 AM on August 31, which will allow guests to arrive early enough to watch the sun come up over the Atlantic Ocean. Regular Drive Yourself rates and Vehicle Restrictions apply. The Mt. Washington Auto Road recommends not waiting until the last minute to arrive as you may spend a few additional minutes at the Toll House due to traffic.
The State Park building will be open with limited food service on all three of these mornings.

So far everyone that responded is interested in the Sunrise Drive.

Normal hours listed below. I hope they have something decent after the early morning ascent, as Chuck mentions they will be open early for Sunrise Drive.
Even Dunkin isn't open that early for a 'box of Joe'.
Maybe someone can create and auction off a picnic basket for the trip then we can all share.

The Cafeteria and Gift shop is open daily, operating hours are as follows:
May 18 to June 7 - 10:00 am to 4 pm
June 8 to June 21 - 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
June 22 to September 3 - 9:00 am to 6:00 pm

So after trying to book a hotel in Tilton for Friday night to be able to enjoy all that is filthy and bacon-covered at the Tilton Diner on Saturday morning, I discovered that the weekend of 06/20-06/22 is the end of Bike Week up at Laconia, and as such most hotels are either booked solid or requiring a three-night minimum. For those planning on staying elsewhere besides the Omni hotels up on the Mt Washington property, I recommend booking sooner rather than later.

Ok. Ok. Ok! I'll go. Dang peer pressure!

So it looks like I'm the last hold out on the Sunrise drive. I've been scratching my head about it for a while; weighing that deathly early hour (for me) against the beauty of a possible once in a lifetime experience w/ a bunch a fellow enthusiasts, etc.

But I'm afraid of climbing alone , so throw my hat into the circle of early-risers for the ascent into darkness w/ the Donner party!

It'll either be early to bed or pull an all-nighter!

There's a number of names missing of people who have said they're going.

From my perspective, I think it just means those people haven't gone through the process of registering / PayPal / etc. at this point in time.

I'm kind of surprised at the number of people planning to do the sunrise climb. Assuming there'll be a line to go up at 3:30, you'll want to get there in the 3:15 timeframe. That means leaving the hotel at 2:30 or so, which means getting up at 1:30 - 2:00 or so. Figure dinner ends around 8:00, add a couple of hours of socializing, in the room at 10:00. Can't say I find doing Sunday on 3.5 hours sleep appealing.

I shall hope you're right. As for the Sunrise Drive, I agree that it will be tasking. M-Rated and Furby like to cuddle and get their beauty sleep but such is life!

Let the camaraderie begin!

I'll speak to the MWAR but the last time I did they did not seem to think we needed to arrive at 3:30.

Sunrise on June 22nd will be at 4:55AM
