Holy crap, that doesn't look like a good DME. You might have found your problem

Can you just call a wrecker/junkyard and get a used DME?

So I was able to force the random misfire. Tested it a couple times to make sure. Without fail, 4th gear, less than 2000 rpms. Random misfire. Everytime. Any ideas on this new development? Haha

well, with the given condition of the dme, i would look to get that sorted out first.

kinda like tryin to run through the woods in balet slippers....

since it's a 1996 you will need it to be vehicle specific. i am not certain if this is possible to get ordered as such or if the shop will need to flash on site and introduce the new dme.

Go to a junkyard, grab a 96+ DME. Go to your dealership and find a tech to reflash it for your car. It should cost $100. Then enjoy.

That DME you have looks very sick, like it farted and vomited on itself.

And you're waiting to buy it... why? Negative rating on the seller?

Beat me to it DF. I was gonna post a bottle of ink. hnaz you can check out my Instagram @daltonrogerstattooer.

Back to the car, I read that the DME storage drains get plugged up. I do remember back in May at the carwash I had finished washing and vacuumed. When I went to drive away the car lost it. Reving up when my foot was off the gas, stalling, not starting, just crap. Hung out for about half an hour, and it was fine.
Sound right?

That sounds about right, for a DME getting ready to go T-U. Especially if you have injectors that are "stuck" open and just dumping fuel, poor idle or erratic idle, poor response when you press the gas pedal, smoke coming from the passenger side vents, car not starting up at all, cussing, etc.

Car washes have killed many DMEs.......

Make certain you get your cowl drains cleaned out!

Try using some 70% concentration isopropyl alcohol with your soft brush to try and get your DME cleaned up.

Change the fluid, if it is the power steering and not the alternator whine.

Hey OP, look up Frank Smith via South Florida Performance. Apparently he does remote tunes. You have to buy a cable and software to grab the data from your ECU and then you send the data to Frank. He will do the rest. He has a decent reputation. You can Bing him as well.
