Factory subwoofer

I am getting an 2005 X5 4.4 with the factory sound system (not premium) and I am guessing there are no subwolfers included. Does anyone know where the factory subs are located in the cabin on X5's with the premium package. Can you buy just the factory subwoofer from bmw?

The subwoofers on the upgraded DSP system are located in the rear right panel of the cargo area (opposite side of the CD changer/navigation DVD panel). The factory subs will run you about $300 and you will still need an amp to push it. For that kind of money...you can get a very decent aftermarket sub.

If a buy a sub that has a built in amp is there wiring already laid in the right panel of the cargo area to connect it to?

The factory subwoofers are two 6.5" speakers (I believe -- or it could be 5").

Regardless, the guys are correct. Don't bother with the factory subwoofer, it's a waste. Check out X5world.net and see what others have done. I had a nice sub installed and it sounds way better than the DSP subwoofer that comes with the premium sound system.

Agree, if you are going to upgrade your audio system, installing the OEM subs (if you can call them that) is not the place you want to spend your money.

All the wirings are on the LEFT panel of the cargo area where your amplifier for the standard stereo sits. You will have to "tap" into that OEM amp to get all the necessary signals. You can get the complete wiring diagram for the OEM amp(s) from X5World thanks to Jeff (UCrewX5), who constantly updates it with great stuffs!

Anyone find a method to stop the fuel door from vibrating?

Most cars have a license plate that rattles when you start pounding on it, we get the fuel door bangin.

Often it's not the fuel door itself but the little plastic tap for the locking mechanism.
You could try bending the metal parts holding the tap, this has resolved the rattling on multiple X5s ;-)

The fuel door rattle was a simple fix. Is there a fix for the roof spoiler buzz?

I got the JL Audio Prowedge box that's got the sub angled at approximately 30 degree towards the roof. So...when I turn up the bass a bit, my roof spoiler would buzz slightly. Don't know if you guys with sub(s) had experienced this or may bit it's just particular to my X? It's not as bad as the fuel door rattle, but just enough to bug me
