Why would BMW make a Electric car, + it doesn't even look nice, do you think its comparable to a Tesla.... Hell no. Who would want a car with a battery located right underneath the drivers seat, The battery also causes cancer and other illnesses . Its just asinine for a luxury car brand to come out and make a car that looks like complete poop .

I agree, I wouldn't believe it is significant enough unless there's proof that these battery's can cause serious illnesses

Do you know how big the battery is underneath the drives seat? The battery releases extremely toxic waves that cause tremendous damage..

The batteries are between the seats -

BMW i8 battery location

What "toxic waves" are you talking about? The batteries are sealed in the aluminum chassis.

It doesn't matter They have EMF waves Which are a major health risk. Its like living underneath power lines.

Is it any worse then the EMF the engine in your 3 series is putting off? Most people aren't worried about EMF the way you seem to be so I don't think is going to be a productive discussion.

You're kidding, right? I can't tell if you're serious or trolling at this point. EMF comes from any electrical source. There is electrical wiring all over your car.

Compared to a car that fully runs on electricity right...

Did you look at the consumer reports link? Some gas powered cars produced more EMF then hybrids. This is your concern, not mine. I am simply trying to illustrate that your concerns, without measurement, are hypothetical.

Another example of EMF readings all over the place -
Quote:
I recently test drove a Model S and measured EMF levels in the backseat using a Bell-4180 Triple-Axis Gaussmeter. A Tesla rep. had mentioned that I was not the first person to do this, and claimed that the EMF levels in a Model S are "below that of a gas-powered car." I did not find that to be true, but the levels are not the worst I have measured.

I found EMF in the Model S to be below an ICE-powered car (nominally 2 mG) at idle and when coasting, but spike to around 15 mG when accelerating. This is actually much better than measured hybrids--the CMax Energi emits 15 mG simply by turning on the car, and a Prius is around 6 mG. Still, it is higher than a LEAF, which never goes above 2 mG. I wonder if this EMF is generated when modulating power to the traction control system, in which case it should be lower when in an eco mode, or with traction control disabled.

15 mG is roughly comparable to standing about a foot from an active microwave, though, to be clear, we are not measuring microwave radiation (what actually cooks your food), but rather EMF, which will be emitted from any electrical device, such as a mobile phone, which will emit much more.

I look forward to measuring the Model X. I would be happier if levels could be kept below 2mG at all times given that my children will likely spend a thousand hours in the car. As it stands now, the LEAF is preferable from an EMF standpoint.

While EMF has been shown to be non-ionizing, the link to childhood leukemia remains statistically significant, albeit weak. One theory supposes that EMF interferes with DNA repair, which could indirectly increase cancer incidence by interfering with natural repair mechanisms in those with particular genes (XRCC1). See http://informahealthcare.com/doi/abs...28190802441347).

P.S. Reading this thread saddens me. I was hoping for more helpful responses, but the majority of posts serve no purpose, except perhaps to embarrass mankind forever. You are not as clever as you think you are; please refrain.

Back on the subject, I think the Tesla Model S offers a better overall value over the i8, but the two are not exactly the same.

The i8 is a plug in hybrid and is more comparable to the Fisker Karma.

Is i8 pathetic? I think its too early to judge.

The Fisker was a sedan ... The i8 is a GT style sports coupe... And it's a plug-in hybrid... How are they similar again?

Same with Tesla.

These cars are in a different segment but people keep comparing them due to the use of electric mobility.

Tell us what you really think. Care to add any substance to your posting or do you just think "they're stupid"?

I think the i8 is the best looking BMW ever made. Your tirade against the wrong car is indicative of your equally silly tirade about EMF. No wonder people in New York always make fun of people in New Jersey.

Everyone including BMW is following Tesla and by most counts a good 3-5 years behind.

Don't fall for the sheet metal design alone. Tesla and Toyota have the majority of patents.

We saw an i8 at BMW Park Lane. The i8 is one of the best looking cars BMW has built in years.

The i3 and the i8 don't have much of that. The body panels are plastic.
