Ports in Ceiling

Potentially stupid question time:

In the ceiling of the X3, in front of the rear passenger grab handles, there are two little ports or openings in the ceiling. They have a plastic cover over them, and the inside appears to be some sort of plug to hook something mechanical to--but I have no idea what they are or what they do.

So...what the heck are they?

Ports in Ceiling

They are the anchor points for the forward position of the cargo net. The cargo net/cargo cover was optional in some years as I recall.

Do you mean the cargo net that extends up from the cargo area cover? I have that cargo net, and these aren't for it. These are IN FRONT OF the rear passenger grab handles, above and just behind the driver/front passenger's heads, on the outside edge of the ceiling in the car. Right above the B-Pillar.

Nothing like that in my X3. Can you post a picture of it?

I hang my suit jacket with a hanger that has a wire hook in the port.

Do you have an '11? If so, that net has two possible positions, the normal position and a forward position. I don't have the net, and I don't have the ports that you refer to, but it sounds like they are in the area where you would fasten the net if it it was in the forward position. See page 112 of the 2011 owner's manual.

I have them in my X3. They are for the cargo net, when you fold the rear seats down you can move the cargo net and hook them to the ports. Her is a photo http://www.autotribute.com/wp-conten...-cargo-net.jpg
