In order to make the navigation screen work you will either need to have the BMW navigation computer (MkIII or MkIV) or a BMW video module installed. WIthout at least one of these components it will not work.

Jeff, I don't believe he wants the whole navigation setup. in Europe they have an option to have the 16:9 screen without navigation. it's basically for tv/dvd purposes.
As to the original question, I don't really know what is involved in the retrofit. I imagine it wouldn't be very simple.

Adam, I understand that. But I believe the Euro versions that don't have the nav computer do have the TV module. The screen needs one of these to function.

D'oh! I just re-read your original post. I didn't see that you had already addressed the video module issue.
BTW, don't know if you were able to see my reply to an old post.

FYI, 16:9 screens will work with the MKII computer. Just no split screen.

Mein Auto: BMW X5 E53 2005/2006
Hi guys!

Let me rise up this theme

I have got the same idea to upgrade my BMW X5 E53 2006, where only a business CD is installed. Just have bought the 16:9 monitor.

Does anybody have such experience? I have found that the 16:9 has 2 connectors - white and blue, whereas the B-CD has the some white only and also a lot of different wires. It made me confused at first time. After I read this topic, I understood that there also has to be the radio unit and TV (or NAVI) unit to turn the 16:9 on, right?
