First car/project

Hi my name is Jonah, I live in Highlands Ranch Colorado. I finally bought my first car/project. I'm eighteen and have been working for a while to get money for a car. I got it a few weeks ago but it wasn't running and I didn't have any pics so that's why I didn't post an introduction. I bought it from a guy on Craigslist for 800 bucks. Its and 1985 325e coupe. It has 300,000 miles but was rebuilt 40,000 ago. It for sure needs some work but that's the point of a project. There's also some bad rust holes in the trunk that I'm working on now. Also if anybody can help I just did oil change and fuel filter change and It now won't start again. I used Castrol GTX high mileage 10w40 and it's like part synthetic. For the fuel fuel filter I just used a puralator. But ya it won't start just clicks no cranking. Also while it was running i got a new battery and checked the starter and alternator with my friends tool that he has and both checked out fine. Here's some pics of it when It ran briefly, btw the interior is blue cloth (no interior pics yet)Click image for larger version

click but o start are the dash lights on? if so it could be a jammed starter.

Id also double check that you reconnected all the fuel systems electric plugs properly

Now it doesnt click and yes dash lights are on it started before that. Also i didn't disconnect any electric plugs i just unhooked the two fuel lines on each side of the filter then aimed them up so gas couldn't get everywhere then put in new filter and put hoses back on although i did spill some gas when putting it back on because i couldnt get it the first time. As for the oil change i did every thing as normal but i dont think thats why its not starting. I could try and put the filter in the other way but according to the arrows i have them pointing towards the engine and away from the hose that goes back to the fuel tank.

not clicking means a bad starting relay or a bad/jammed starter its not uncomon for them to fail suddenly like that. You can try hitting the starter with a long extension then try cranking it. or try connecting some leads to a multi meter to the starter and have a friend crank it to see if power is getting to it.

Is the car a manual or auto?

It's a 5 speed and ya I'll try hitting the starter tomorrow because I have work and finals to study for today. If it works I'll let you guys know. If not should I try and switch fuel filter around?

Did you try rocking the car with it in gear then try to start it.Sometimes it will free up the starter if it's stuck ,you could also try to push start it ,but I'm guessing it's pretty cold where you are and volunteers might be hard to come by.
