Dirt in 3rd brake light area

Greetings. I did a quick search on this and found nothing.

I noticed today while refueling that there is a noticeable amount of dirt inside of the 3rd brake light "housing". Further, it seems like someone has stuck something in there. I don't know if this was kids messing around or someone attempting to clean it (just bought the car), but is there a way to easily remove this housing and clean the inside? My skill level is "i can change a flat tire" and I am new to BMW's.

PS, happy to be here.

Hey Flux,

You should be able just to pull the cover off from the liner area and clean the dirt. i had some dead critters in mine after I bought my car. Let us know if you need anything more concrete. Just go slow and steady when you try to pull it off and you should be fine.

Thanks!

Wow, that was super easy. Took off the brake light cover in the headliner with a simple pull, then unlatched the brake light itself and dusted it out. Nice and clean now!!
