White things on front of all new 335i BMWs

What the heck are those two white things on the front of all new 335i BMWs?
I asked the dealer and he said they are there to make the car look sporty!
Look Sporty? Did he mean without them that the car would look like junk?

What are they for ? I would paint mine Flat Black as soon as I buy the car.

Anybody know the real reason that they are there?
And do they have to be white?

White flat panels

There are two on the front - one each in the lower air inlets next to the lower parking lights at the front of the car. These white panels appeared in the 2013 models of the BMW 335.
Anyone one know their purpose?

I have been wondering this same question. Has no one figured out what they actually do? I figured they might be front parking sensors but unsure.

I think he's talking about the glossy white horizontal 10" or so horizontal piece from the middle of the foglight towards the center.

Sport Line only.

White Gkossy Things

Yeah, but what do those white glossy things do? Will painting them Flat Black destroy their purpose?

Does anyone know the purpose of these items. no one seems to know and the dealer says they are there to make the car look sporty. This can't be true, can i? What do you think?

I think they just redirect the air to hit the radiator more efficiently. The reason they are white is that it matches with chrome and other accents on the car... I think.

The different packages have different looks. Base models are all black, luxury have chrome inserts, modern and sport have the light silver but in different shapes. I'm assuming you could just swap them out, eg throw a base one on if you don't like the color.

They're purely there for the car to be easily recognized as being a sport line F30. That's all... This work quite well actually, you can tell from quite a distance what "line" the F30 is by the small kinards and other subtle cues. Same goes for luxury line, then the Msport get M aero kit and that s a hug difference. Just for your information guys

Why? The dealer gave the right answer.

That's not what the dealer said. He said it was there for looks - nothing at all about air flow. I guess they are salesmen, not engineers!

Are these the "white glossy things" that you are talking about? They are found on F30s with the MODERN LINE package.

That's because they have nothing to do with airflow. Not all of them have it... See f30jojo's reply. He is correct about the different packages having different styles.

Sounded to me like all he said about it is that it gives it a "very modern feel".

The salesman you spoke to gave you the correct answer. They're just trim pieces. Why would they be anything else?

PS- they're silver, not white.

Most sensible answer for a BMW auto.that it does have to do with efficient airflow!

You asked the question, we're giving you the appropriate answer, and you're choosing to ignore it for your own explanation. It's purely a cosmetic feature that only exists on certain packages, as is evidenced by this picture of a base model...
