What to watch out for buying a 2011 328xi

What to watch out for when buying a used 2011 328xi with 50k miles on it.

Hi everyone, I'll be moving to the Chicago area in February and I'm planning on getting a nice 328, problem is I won't have my mechanic friend around to help.

I'm familiar with the 2010 325i my mother owns but hers is like new so I wonder what to be careful with.

Thanks and Happy New Year

Get a Pre purchase inspection before you buy. Try and get a CPO car if you can.

Good catch ! It will be a Sedan due to the wife, kid and coming baby.

I did some research on CPO, it looks very thorough but who pays for it ?? I mean the seller has it certified and then shows you the report?

Are CPO BMW only available at a BMW dealer?

The way a car gets CPOed is a dealer takes a car in on trade and then certifies it (pays a fee) and does all repairs needed to get to CPO spec. Since the dealer pays for this it ups the cost of the car. If you own a car that you want to CPO you can pay to do it I've heard 1200 - 3000 for this.

Also what's your price range your best bet is to get one less than 4yrs 50,000 miles to get some factory coverage on top of the CPO. Remember used e90 prices are taking a hit as the f30's are starting to hit the used market

I was looking for something around $20,000.

I saw many 2011 under 50k miles for that money, obviously if I can get a newer or less driven car for the money I am ok with that

Mein Auto: '11 328ix Wagon 6-spd
Hi all! I'm a new BMW owner. I just (yesterday) brought home a '11 328i x-drive wagon (6-spd). I found it on the corporate CPO website. It was several thousand bucks higher than Edmunds and right in line with KBB (who may have been purchased by an industry-friendly company so I was told to be skeptical of them).

I was able to negotiate them down to between the two figures. I was shown/signed a list of CPO items checked or fixed by the dealership.

The car is in great shape with some interior blems but otherwise, it's like new. I'll try to post some pics soon. It's black/saddle.

ETA: I paid $29.5k, 35,000 mi. Originally purchased 11/2010.

Congrats,

Also for another point of reference last March i got a 2009 crimson red 328xi coupe with premium package, sport package, and CPO'ed for 23,500. The car had 32,000mi at the time and the original in service date was 11/27/2009 which gave me 9 months of Factory coverage before i even got to the CPO warranty

Carfax, thorough inspection, do the fluids (transfer case, differentials, power steering, transmission, coolant), also spark plugs and check for oil leaks, tires.

Then enjoy and drive the snot out of it!

If its an auto, I double the transmission fluid one, ignore BMW replace it around 60,000 miles (drain fill method) and then every 30,000 after that. Dont fall for the life time line from BMW if you plan to keep the car past 100k miles

Occurs to me that the ECU collects data on how the car's operated. Top speed[s] etc. Accessing that'll tell a tale....

Depending on how its done this gets wiped if the car gets a software reset/upgrade. Mine was wiped when my software was redone.
