2009 3.28xi w/iDrive Battery replacement question

I have a 2009 3.28xi w/ iDrive + Winter package and am in need of some battery replacement advice. I've done a lot of reading regarding replacements and doing the reprogramming of the battery but I wanted to make sure I understood correctly.

I just got back from the dealer right now and the reason I went in was bc my halo lights/parking lights stopped turning on when i unlocked the car in addition to the battery increase discharge warning when the car turns on. The fact that it's cold in Minneapolis right now doesn't help either (going to hit -30 this weekend). The BMW Advisor told me that the battery is likely the culprit especially considering the battery has never been changed before. They quoted me $490 for the replacement which is outrageously steep for a battery. Is it particularly more bc my 3 series has a lot of bells and whistles that need that extra juice or is this typical price for dealership?

Any advice would be great...I do not own that special cable (although i need to buy one) for coding the car either.

With your age car its time to find the good local indy shop that will treat you right on price ...... about $280 or less at least in our market for a battery and registration.

Sounds like you needed it yesterday

I've learned my lesson...never believe those fellas at the dealership. He convinced me that the battery is proprietary and that no one else can service them. So I agreed to the battery replacement only to learn what I've learned so far by simply searching around the forums. Next time around I'll be sure to consult with Indy mechanics before committing...
