How's the E93 on gas?

Had an E46 vert, got rid of it a bit over a year ago.

Now I'm pining. Daily driver is a pickup ATM, and I really want to get back into a 3 series vert.

I'm eyeing a used M3 E93 (don't have one in sights yet, just what I'm looking for), and trying to make it somewhat affordable.

What sort of mileage do you all get with mostly city driving?

I get about 14 mpg in my E93. 90% of my driving is in the city as I only drive about 15 miles a day during the week.

With city driving, expect 13-15 mpg. A used 335i/335iS might be a better option.

My recent 700 mile return from Georgia to Houston (95% highway, too cold to put the top down), I got around 20.5 mpg -- but had A BLAST driving it...

In my E90 M3 I'm averaging about 16.5mpg (well, I was when it was warm out. It's parked now ...).

How's the E93 on gas?

I'm getting 16.6, so that means about 14.8-15.5

I got a pretty steady mixed highway/city 14 mpg average in this E93.

For comparison, I'm lucky to get 13 mpg in my E92.

Yeah, I concur with the actual owners here; if you want good gas mileage do not buy an M3. Period. My best tank so far was 22mpg which was FAR better than I expected. But that was several hours of straight Interstate travel, no stops, and a lot of down hill! My worst tank so far was 12mpg, but that was a day I spent carving up twisty back roads of Missouri... literally YMMV. Having said that, I stopped tracking the gas mileage because I find I just don't care in this car

The fuel tank is 16.6 gallons... so assuming your average refuel is around 14 gallons @ 14 mpg, your city cycle is around 196 miles per tank. If you're being more conservative, you might get close to 16 mpg, but the car begs to be revved and the low end torque is only modest -- you're going to dig deeper into the accelerator more often than you think.

I'll tell you this though.

Going to the gas pump is worth it. It is SO worth it. Hearing the V8 roar with the top down is an experience in and of itself.

13-14 MPG city with a light foot. Compounded by a small tank and a low fuel light that comes on at about 1/4 tank, the wonderful beast sucks gas like a _________ (fill in your own).

When I spec'd out my E90 M3 for Euro delivery, my wife said "what, you're not getting satellite radio, when it's only $400?"

My response: "I'm not going to listen to the radio."

2.25yrs later, I was right.

As for gas mileage, I've NEVER seen as high as 20mpg on a tank of gas, whether traveling the interstate or normal city+hwy driving. I suspect it's remotely possible with careful driving; I've just never done that!

Especially with DCT, where the 7-6-5-4-3 GAS 3-4-5-6-7 routine is so easy, so aurally and butt-dyno pleasing ... it's a rare drive, even to work, where I don't manage to squeeze it in once or twice. Never mind the 2nd/3rd gear blast up the exit and entrance ramps!

I might be 2 cylinders and 2 pipes short of an M3, for now, but the MPG on my 328 won't move much past 17-18. I drive the grocery getter as if it's a high performance street car.

The M3 should not be purchased with MPG numbers in mind. Between higher-than-normal maintenance costs and an endless list of juicy mods, gas is probably the cheapest thing you'll ever end up buying for the M3.

Wow I must be really conservative when I drive my vert. I average about 16.5-17. 90% of my driving is highway though so that's probably why my average is so high. I have monitored my mpg in the city before and yes, it's a real gas hog; I averaged about 13. Crazy to think a BMW would produce a car capable of chugging this much fuel. On the other hand, that poor gas mileage is a small price to pay for that amazing V8 under the hood!

Makes you wonder what the M5 with the V10 (and the heavier 4 door build) did in the real world.

I test drove an E60 and E63 and the dash unit was saying 8-9 consistently around the city. And that's considered optimistic. So it would probably be like...6-7...

Yeah, the dash indicator is grossly inaccurate.

My drive to work is partly FW & partly city streets. I can easily get between 18-19 mpg on my E93 M3 6 speed mt driving with some spurts of spirited driving on the freeway. Probably, if I stay under 80 mph on the FW,I might get more mpg.

Where is the "not a believable statement" button?

NO ONE is getting 18-19mpg in a V8 M3 with "spurts of spirited driving" and consistently over 80mph. I'm calling BS and simply stating that isn't happening, ESPECIALLY in the tank of a 'vert.
