Run straight in Windows, it's very quick. If You use DIS, then You can use same OBD cable with this software. With all repairing instructions, wiring schemas, etc. PM for details

Is this a replacement for INPA? Is this not something I can purchase through the BMW service subscription?

That's where I will be heading next. It will work on newer models also. The ICOM is the real expensive part, but with it you can update certain ECU's thru the MOST, the way they were suppose to be update, DCAN is to risky and takes forever and have issues with power swings.

I plan on hacking this software and making it easily available for everyone soon. DIS and INPA are to complicated to use efficiently, thou i have mastered them.

Sweet, can't wait. Until then I'll have to stick with my cheap bootleg software and cable that cost $35 as $250 for pirated stuff from Czech Republic is a little too expensive for me...

I've only seen native installs on certain laptops or VMWare which requires a 64 bit Host OS with 8GB of RAM so that the Guest OS can use 4 GB... so running straight in Windows sounds interesting. A few questions I'm sure others are wondering (though I suppose you could respond via PM):

1. What are the recommended hardware requirements? And with those requirements how many minutes of boot time for ISTA/D?

2. What is the process for printing?

3. Is an activation code required? How many "days remaining" do you get before the code expires?

4. What are the upgrade options? And the cost, for example when you have ISTA/D 3.40.X running straight in Windows?

5. Is F-series supported? E-Net cable required?

6. What screen resolutions can you run? It's nice to run WDS on a 20"+ screen...

7. Does KL15 & KL30 report actual voltage through the Ediabas interface?

Thanks.

Might not have to wait that long, i've got it running on my Pavilion with dual core cpu and 8GB of memory 1TB HDD, it uses 120GB of. The only thing i have to do is confirm it connects to my 7 and does everything its supposed to. It does use almost 100% of the cpu's and 50% of the ram. Its so simple to use, it makes DIS and inpa look ancient!

Heh. Grab a torrent. There's also an icom emulator vm out there dongle free. Just load the vm snapshot with the app already running. Works with my K+DCAN on OSX.

Doesn't bother me. With 16gb of RAM & SSD, I notice zero difference. Suspend it, & it starts up in like 5 seconds. I mean - how often do you actually use it?

ICOM Emulator VM: https://mega.co.nz/#!Q5Zn1RJQ Download Key: CbatSyuo6EppMYKFjSeFgFa_1d5KQQ7cbIHgFdSorLw

You have to start it up from one of the snapshots where the app is already running preconfigured for your cable type. It only check the dongle on startup of the app. So basically, it just gets around it by saving a state with the app already running.

The 2 "Working" snapshot I made for my own purpose. It comes with OPS, DCAN, & ENET running states.

Not sure there's a dongle workaround if running it native.

Im a little confused as to what the icom emulator is for. Im assuming its just like Diag head emulator for DIS? And the purpose is for it to establish the connection to the car?

Yep. Pretty much. ICOM communicates over the standard network. Not sure if that was the case with DIS. Never played with it.

Whoever made it for the ICOM tried to secure their revenue stream with a dongle.

So did ISTA D/P replace DIS/Progman/TIS? Ive got ISTA-D_2.36_ISTA-P_2.50.2 running on the Virtual Machine. And just to clarify that im correct for it to connect to the car with the K-DCAN cable i need to use the ICOM Emulator but it wont work without a usb dongle. And to bybass the usb dongle i need a screenshot, if so a screenshot of what? The screenshot you attached was difficult to see.

You're correct up to the "I need a screenshot". Screenshot alone won't get you anything.

I provided a link for the emulator in post 21. It's about 1 gig file. It's a preconfigured virtual machine, with 3 different snapshots.

For it to work, you'll need to be running BOTH virtual machines. ICOM Emulator & ISTA. The emulator is pretty slim, and doesn't require much resources. It just sits there & translates. It your case, you would load the "K+DCAN Start" snapshot from the ICOM Emulator VM.
