Mein Auto: 2009 BMW 335i M Package
Can you update the software on a 2009 coupe?

Hi guys. I have a 2009 335i Coupe (M package if that helps) and I wanted to see if I can update the software for the iDrive.

I did do a little searching to see and if I'm not mistaking I have to buy a new combox? Can I not just update it using a flash drive or something?

What do you mean update the software? You can get a complete car software update, but it won't "change" your iDrive, if thats what you're trying to do. It'll change some menus and make it a bit faster, but it won't become the new iDrive (I'm assuming you want the new version with office + apps since you're asking about the combox).

Yes, I want the new apps and all that. What else do I need besides a combox and is there a specific combox I need to get?

No. Nope. You must purchase a new BMW.

You need to first figure out if you have a CIC nav. I don't believe all 2009 models were equipped with CIC. Some early builds might have CCC. If you have CCC, you cannot upgrade to the combox option. You can retrofit a CIC and then combox, but you need the CIC unit for combox.

Combox retrofits are well documented on various forums. Use google. You should be able to find guides and videos easily
