My 335 is now a clown car

So the wife just had a baby and it's crazy how much smaller this car feels now with two car seats inside. I had to move the driver's seat up and the comfort level of this car has plummeted.

Perhaps a sport wagon or small SUV is in my future.

Oh and we named the kid after Ring taxi driver Sabine Schmitz.

One baby seat can work in these cars. With two it is very cramped. I tell my wife my car is a 3 seater. If I had to move the drivers seat up to allow someone to sit behind me, I couldn't work the clutch. N4S

If you wish to stay with a BMW, you might want to consider an X3. It retains a lot of the BMW driving experience, with a larger (and more utilitarian) interior.

Buy a Combi Corccoro car seat for the infant and use it behind the driver's seat.

I did this, but after my mother moved in (she has dementia). With my two kids, now 6 and 8, there is no difference to me in comfort, except for the noise level. When they can be safely seated forward facing, your seat position can return to normal. I would have a bigger car for frequent family travel, if you can. We also have an XC70, which was car # 2 before the van. The minivan is only used by me on snowy days (it's an AWD Sienna) or when we all go somewhere.

Point is, the e90 is ok when the car seats face forward. Can you wait or use another vehicle until then?

ps Bemo, How do you adjust going back and forth between the 5GT and the E90? When I drove that X5 Panzer at C2C5 last year I was afraid I was going to back over somebody's E9X because I was so far away from the back window and so high. Talking about it with Prof. Cook (his wife drives an X5), he said taking out the rear headrests was how she solved the same problem. I would think bouncing back and forth between the two vehicles would induce perceptual whiplash.

@ 3isMagic#:

Congrats on the new arrival. Here's hoping she inherited some car love from you. When she is about 4 or 5 y.o. show her some videos of Sabine and I'll bet it will germinate. I never did the car seat kiddo thing, so help me here with my ignorant question, but aren't backwards car seats something that is just temporary for what 6 months? How old is your older child?

Kat,
The smart money now is to keep them rear facing as long as possible even if their legs start getting cramped. The idea being that in a serious crash it is better to suffer leg injuries than neck/spine injuries.

We had our first facing backwards until about 2, though she outgrew the infant seat at about 1 year. I'll try putting the infant seat behind the passenger seat and the booster behind me. I'd like to keep this car at least until the warranty runs out.

With two little girls you will perhaps appreciate this:

Back in about 1964 my dad came to the hard decision that he had to give up his beautiful red 1957 Porsche 356 coupe because he had two little girls with growing legs. I was still small enough that cramped legs didn't bother me, for my older sister it was starting to get a bit tight.

Today, that Porsche is worth a small fortune and I've always wondered where it ended up. I have some really good memories of it, but omg the back seat of my E93 is like a football field compared to it. Your E90 is much larger, but the same concept applies.

Just make sure the memories your girls have of the E90 are all good and it will bear good fruit in the future.
I know you'll work it out!

Clown car...I thought you were talking about the mustache grill, or that you put on a front license plate.

Going back and forth between the 2 is awful. The dimensions and overall driving dynamics are a night and day. Usually I find myself in Sport or Sport+ suspension setting, when in the GT and lone for being in the 3er! Truth be told, and I kid you not, the biggest problem I have with the GT is how ugly of a car it is. The front end, overall, and especially the hood line induce anger and, quite often, foul language. The "next gen" mockups look promising, especially since Mrs. Bemo plans on getting another. So I stand by my unsolicited advise to 3ismagic# to snatch an X5M!

Btw, I'll be getting new shoes on Monday. OE RFTs Continentals! We'll be ready to conquer Mt. Washington in June. Hope all is well.

Bemo
