Replace all speakers, then add bass as needed..

Keep in mind that subs/amps are heavy you will notice this in the HP/MPG department.

All I have to say is: EXAMPLES? Brands? Fitment? And will I be able to actually FEEL the bass and get bumpin'?
Speakers blow, as well as the bass levels. A sub would immediately fix the bass at least..

Speakers are an idivual thing unless you just want stock replacments.

Will you feel it, ya if you get enough...

All i have to say is RESEARCH .. I've done a lot of sound systems..
You just need to sort it out based on your budget/needs..

We can give opinions all day to sort threw.. Wont help much.. Sounds clips for car stereos distort uselessly.. Making examples difficult.

There are many, you just have to find them in your size
HD
Sony
Pioneer
Kenwood
are all the ones i have seen in the 5 1/4 size for the E34. And this was at Walmart not looking for speakers, they are just next to the lighting and fishing sections of the store.
The few E34's i have seen including mine still have GREAT sound from the stock speakers.

Seriously ^+1

He just needs to spend 10 seconds looking up the size, and then buying the best he can or wants to afford...

If he wants comparisons, he should spend 30 seconds googling reviews of the product in question.. Sterio's in old BMW's are either oem or mix and match usually..

From experiance just follow the general consensus of the reviews, aviod most no name crap.
Just try to get a reputable brand, if most people are pleased its likely you will be also..

E34 accoustics are not bad or tricky.. 1 hour online researching is worth more than 5000 hours on this thread asking opinions.

I got all new factory type speakers.. Sounds great. IMO

you are always limited by your weakest link too.

if your budget has 4 figures, you will be wanting to be spending some of that on a better battery, better wiring, etc. Dont spend too much on a head unit, the only difference between the $69 and the $369 units etc are the features, the sound quality on all of them for that brand stable is the same, so you can save some of your budget here. Spend $200 less on the head unit, and spend $200 more on the speakers, or add an amp, and you will have a better system.

Tuning an amp however is critical if you are going to be using one, and something best left to the experts, or PM me

There is a little squeel whenever our radio is on.. ever since we got it installed from some place, it's been happening.

Also, I'm not looking to spend more than $200. And that is where a used sub and amp or something could come in.. could it not?

Idk what your looking for, or how old you are..

But unless you just want something, even if its crap on top of old blown speakers 200$ is not a budget..

I plan for 2-300$ on a head unit

2-300$ subs and amp

1-200$ replacment speakers

50$ wiring kit..

This is a standard rough estimate in my area for decent sound.
Im to wieght conscious to do it anymore, i will do my up comming SUV..

You want an opinion, here is my time tested method.

I get a NESA or other reputable indash, 50wx4 minimum

Either (2) 10" or 12" or (1) 15" Kicker Solar Baric L7'(s)

1000w dual channel amp minumum.

I had (2) 10" L5 and (1) 15" L7 on 3700watts but the truck latch broke.. So i do not advise + it was HEAVY as honey boo boo..!

I am person who has to have everything!

First i have to have it, a cheap one or cutting corners w/e i get it!

Then i must have it correct! Done right....

Then i just seem to need to over do it...

So between doing this over and over on my own and working at a stereo shop as an installer.
Trust me, buy it piece by piece.. Do it once do it right.

To be honest, my birthday is coming up, I don't want to use a lot of my dad's money on speakers or an amp or whatever all of that stuff you just said was.. and on top the price of having the same people who made our stereo squeel, install some more stuff.

So, first. I should focus on a better amp and rear deck woofers and up front tweeters? THEN, if that's not good enough, add a subwoofer?

If, I say this carefully, if, 200$ if your budget it can be done.
60$ Pioneer Bluetooth CD USB AUX-input head-unit
3 sets of 25$ HD-brand speakers 5 1/4 i may add. (6 total speakers) 2 on dash 2 under dash 2 on rear shelf
Misc connectors 15$
Tweeters will not make it into this budget. they are 1-2 inch IIRC. Very hard to find for the E34. You need 4?
Nor will a sub or any other new items such as the old amp or wiring.

This is a tight budget but it can be done as outlined above.
I looked at the items while i was getting a battery and this is the prices i saw.

NOTE
Prices may vary depending on location
I am no liable for an damages to your sound system LOL

Idk what you have now..

Dont spend dads money on speakers then just wait till you can spend your own..

If its all stock crap, id start with 4 new speakers.. 2 front/2 back. Around 100$

Then decide whats next

I have a an aftermarket Head-Unit (changes colors ), and I had thought the rear speakers were 5 1/4, while the fronts were custom sized?? I'm lost........

Also... there is no way in hell we'd be installing these.

Sorry about all of that... was that really me? Wow... I feel like in six more months I'll look back at my topics and questions for you guys and be like, "I was such a dumbass." Sorry for being a pest on these forums for about a year...

I hadn't changed the speakers or installed a sub.

Just got done with the fog light issue and am looking to get better audio. If anything I'd get four to six speakers, and get them installed and see how those work and maybe eventually get a sub.

What brand do you recommend? Or what do you guys have?

Is your system stock?
Wow, forgot to re read.

What ended up solving the fogs?

Just go and replace all 10 with some good 3 way speakers, or as you can find the size you want, you should be able to do 8 easily, the doors not so much.

I have a Kenwood HU but I don't know what amp we got installed with that.

The easy-splice pieces didn't even splice them all the way.. soldering fixed that. I cleaned them inside and out, the glass domes and lenses. Also used some clear acrylic nail polish on them, helped a bit.

We have ten speakers?! I thought we had around six.. Two in the front doors, two front deck, two rear deck?

One in each front door-2
one under each side of the front dash where the door meets the body-2
one on each side of teh top of the dash-2
one in each side of the rear deck-2
one tweeter in each side of the rear deck-2
That =10

And actually there is one more under teh dash for the gong sounds, and for the optional phone.

2 tweeters, 2 mids, 2 midbass in the front & 2 tweeters and 2 mids rear.

PLEASE tell me the stock amp is in place?
It has a great cross over for that number of speakers, trust me it does make a difference when having so many, and they are all different.

I'm thinking I'm just going to be replacing the two front deck and two rear deck speakers.. hopefully that can help.

I know it won't help with much bass, but that is what a subwoofer is for.

Replace the two under the dash in the kick panel, they help a lot with bass, that is their job down there.

What size are those ones?

And when we got our Kenwood HU in they changed the amp.. we still have it, but from the way you said it, it probably isn't performing as well as they should because of the aftermarket amp?

Exactly, the factory crossover handles the system very well, may be why you don't think it sounds so good, i just stuck in my 2nd Ken-wood last week, the first was great, just got an upgrade(not too happy with it, may go back to my old), and still have GREAT sound from stock speakers, but have stated to buy speakers to upgrade i have the front two and rear two on the tops of everything.
I have not looked into tweeters, but they may be harder to find.
3-way component in the front 5.25'' woofer, 2.5'' mid, and a 1'' tweeter. In the back there is a 2-way component system 5.25'' woofer a 1'' tweeter

When we put in the Kenwood, it was said that the factory amp would not work with it. So from what I understood.

So, the two in the kick panel are 2.5"? Finding two and a half inch speakers are a pain as is, trying to find tweeters wouldn't work out too well.
