Sedan Rear Center Seat Belt

I love these cars that try to squeeze 3 people across in the back seat when there's really only room for two. On the right size is the regular buckle for the center seat belt and there's a little cubby to keep it out of the way when not in use. On the left there is a buckle that the belt anchors to but no cubby, and it's much more intrusive into that seating position than the other side.

I thought about keeping the belt buckled to pull it towards the center, but then you can't use the center armrest/cupholders. (Then again, I don't want my kids drinking in that car anyway.) I was hoping I could pull it down through below the seat but can't figure out how to pull the seat out. I'm about ready to cut it off, but don't really want to do that.

Any ideas?
