Low coolant

I have a 2007 3281 with 137,000 plus miles. I checked the coolant level and found that it was somewhat low. The driveway was clear of any liquid. Last year I added about 1/2 pint of coolant to bring it to the correct level. Now it appears to be about a half pint low again. I have made numerous long distant trips since I last added coolant, including 2 trips of almost 700 miles each. I read that the coolant level should never be low. I checked the oil filler cap and there is no indication that moisture is in the oil. To be honest, the engine runs as strong as it was 100k ago. Any thoughts? BTW, it has the original water pump and all associated parts.

You have a very small leak so the coolant dries/evaporates before it has a chance to make a visible puddle. And yes, ideally the cooling system should be completely sealed and not lose any [significant] amount of coolant until it's time to replace it.

137K miles is quite a lot for a water pump. Check if there is leakage at the pump shaft.
