Also, check your FSW PSW.TRC file to ensure that it is blank, if you have used the software on an other model then you need to clear out the trace file or you will see the VIN faulty error.

The other issue could be related to your Daten files, they might be too old. What version of NCS Expert are you using? What version of Daten files have you got?

INPA & DIS are diagnostic tools. NCS Expert is a coding tool. You can do all sorts of custom coding to adjust settings in your car. For example you can enable an audible chirp when you lock unlock the car, adjust the length of time the "follow me home" lights stay on, there's a multitude of things that can be changed.

You also use NCS Expert to default code in a new/replacement module in your car. It's more powerful than the dealer coding toolset as it allows the coding of second hand modules. Note, for some modules that are VIN specific you might need t use another tool in the package called WINFKP.
There's loads of info on www.bmwcoding.com in relation to NCS Expert, make sure you read up in the beginners section before posting questions, most have been answered already & they get very narky over there when you ask something without using search first.

Here's a shared Google spreadsheet that shows lots of options if you google "e60 coding spreadsheet" you'll find a link in the first result.

No, but you can deactivate a key on the CAS module if you happened to lose a key.

Thanks for your help on this guys. Have managed to get it working by using the latest daten files and changing com port settings.

Have done some coding which includes:

Aux option
Auto Fold mirrors via key fob
Welcome home lights via key fob -
MHud - Displays rpm and Gear in HUD - (This only shows for 30 seconds, don't think it's compatible with my MY 2004/12)

Not sure there's many other options to code available on my model though..

How much money has your wife got to turn on the seat gong!!
We don't have the legal screen on UK model and I have the HUD so no need for the digital speed in cluster.

Not sure if I can do this: 'Idrive boot directly into Entertainment menu'..

What was the module and code change?

You coudl code in the Brake Force display feature in the LMA? There are 2 stages you can program, so two stages of severity of braking. You can set any o fthe rear lights to behave how you want them to behave when you slam on the brakes. Fore example you coudl have the 3rd brake light flash when you're emergency braking.

Funny! It seems no matter what we put in that damn seat it gongs, I can buy a bottle of wine and put it on there and it gongs at me. We were having to keep the seat belt latched at all times. Not anymore!

Here is the entertainment change:

Module CAPPL
va_fb_entertianment
aktiv (I chose entertainment as the start up screen option from nicht_aktiv)
